How I Met Your Mother Star Cristin Milioti Returning to TV in NBC Rom-Com

Originally posted 05/12/2014 09:20PM

Miss How I Met Your Mother? NBC is bringing actress Cristin Milioti (The Mother) back to the small screen this fall for another adorable comedy about how love stands the test of time.

A to Z, executive-produced by Rashida Jones, tells the story of Andrew (Mad Men's Ben Feldman), a hopeless romantic who works at an online dating service. He tries to hide his cheesiness, belting Céline Dion in the comfort of his car and learning how to hit on women with a coworker. But when he meets the straight-laced Zelda (Milioti), he realizes he's seen her before: shimmering in a silver dress at a concert in 2012.

The show follows Andrew and Zelda's relationship from start to finish – as the title cutely puts it, from A to Z. Watch the trailer below.

Meg Ryan is getting back into acting, but as befits her more private life these days, it's an off-camera role.

Ryan, 52, has signed up to be the narrator of How I Met Your Dad, the upcoming spin-off of CBS's just-concluded How I Met Your Mother, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Much as Bob Saget provided the voice of future Ted in the original series, Ryan will be unseen as the voice of future Sally, whose present, on-camera self will be portrayed by Greta Gerwig.

See a Fan-Made How I Met Your Mother Ending That Rights All the Finale's Wrongs

Originally posted 04/03/2014 11:00AM

[EMBEDCODE {}] Monday night's finale of How I Met Your Mother was arguably the most disastrously received series ender since Lost. Its missteps were legion (spoiler alert) – killing off the Mother, throwing away the Barney-Robin relationship – but most complaints boiled down to the same source: Creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas were too in love with the road map they'd created years ago, to the detriment of the finale's emotional thrust.

Now one helpful fan has come along to undo all that bad work. Using a few simple edits, YouTube user Ricardo J. Dylan has given viewers the finish they wanted all along, one that preserves the series' romantic soul while jettisoning some of the finale's other … distractions.

The co-creator of How I Met Your Mother defended the hit show's controversial finale Monday night, thanking fans despite their split reactions.

In a series of Tweets, Craig Thomas responded to viewers' anger over main character Ted (Josh Radnor) finally meeting the titular mother … only for her to die, leaving him to move on to former flame Robin (Cobie Smulders). Some of the episode's scenes were filmed nine years ago, Lyndsy Fonseca, who played Ted's daughter, previously told PEOPLE.

But Thomas stood by the show's final plot twist.

How I Met Your Mother Finale: The Show Is Just Like Love

To paraphrase Ted and Robin: "Major Warning!" This story contains spoilers about tonight's final episode of How I Met Your Mother

Back in 2005 as How I Met Your Mother debuted, I wrote that it was the Lost of sitcoms – a group of people searching for love and identity while marooned on an island. (Have you ever tried to escape Manhattan during rush hour?) There was plenty of time travel, too. And like Lost, the CBS sitcom bowed out controversially, but as many fans predicted.

"And that, kids, is how I met your mother."

In a world where cutting to black (The Sopranos) or sending your characters to prison (Seinfeld) passes for a series finale, How I Met Your Mother's ender was decidedly sweet and complete.

While some critics have harshed on this season, the CBS sitcom did a terrific job of tying up all sorts of loose ends (The Mother has a name! The Cockamouse lives!) Except one, that is.

The Kids of How I Met Your Mother Answer Your Questions on Twitter

Originally posted 03/31/2014 01:00PM

You've met the mother. And in the series finale, Ted finally does. But before bidding farewell to How I Met Your Mother forever, we checked in with the children who have waited nine long seasons to hear their parents' love story.

David Henrie and Lyndsy Fonseca joined PEOPLE on Twitter on Monday afternoon, answering fans' questions live with the hashtag #AskTheKids. Though they've gotten less screen time than the actors playing the MacLaren's gang, you could argue Henrie, 24, and Fonesca, 27, are the stars of the show. After all, without his kids, Ted wouldn't have a tale to tell.
