Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

Professor Snape, a.k.a. actor Alan Rickman, stopped by The Tonight Show on Wednesday to talk about his movie A Little Chaos – and put the late-night host in the hot seat.
The Harry Potter actor called out Fallon for the time he and Benedict Cumberbatch did an impression of him on the show – a "Rickmanoff," as it was called. To get Fallon to admit to his ways, Rickman took a page from the Helen Mirren playbook and busted out a truth serum of sorts: helium balloons, which he referred to as "Jimmy Fallon truth-telling machines."

When NBC handed David Letterman Late Night in 1982, his offbeat humor ushered in a new era of late night.
Thirty-three years later, he's stepping down from a late-night landscape that changed around him, having stayed true to himself as the medium changed from appointment viewing to something to be easily digested the next morning in three- to four-minute clips.
"I recognized the value of it," Letterman told The New York Times back in April of his competitors' tendency to gear their shows toward digital audiences. "It's just, I didn't know what to say. You go back to your parents' house, and they still have the rotary phone. It's a little like that."

As the television day wore on from Monday night into Tuesday morning, a second shoe was heard to drop, very softly. That was Seth Meyers moving into NBC's Late Night a week after its previous host, Jimmy Fallon, took over what had been Jay Leno's Tonight Show.

When Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake get together, it can only mean one thing: time to set your DVR.
Whether it's The Barry Gibb Talk Show on Saturday Night Live, "#Hashtags" and "Evolution of End Zone Dancing", we know that when these two team up it's going to be magic.
But the real magic happens when they team up to perform the "History of Rap."
The pair offered up Part 5 on the Tonight Show on Friday, and, indeed, it was awesome. But it made us want to take a look back at Parts 1-4.

What has Tara Lipinski been doing since she became the youngest gold-medalist in Winter Olympics history at Nagano in 1998? A lot of skating, some acting and a TV-commentator gig, mostly.
She's also, apparently, become quite the fan of The Big Lebowski.
It's for this reason (or the slight resemblance of her last name to that of Jeff Bridge's famous L.A. slacker) that Lipinski agreed to perform the Dude's onscreen dance to Kenny Rogers's "Just Dropped In" for Jimmy Fallon. On ice. While holding a White Russian.

Jimmy Fallon is bringing The Tonight Show back to the Big Apple, and it looks like the lifelong New Yorker is enjoying staying rooted in the city.

Seth Meyers is preparing to take the reins of Late Night from Jimmy Fallon when the latter moves to The Tonight Show, and Fallon had his successor on the show Tuesday night for an important tradition: the passing of the Late Night pickle.
This isn't just Fallon being Fallon, however: Apparently it's a real, longstanding Late Night tradition. David Letterman's staff gave the pickle to Conan O'Brien when he inherited the show, and O'Brien gave it to Fallon when he took over.

Justin Bieber's arrest Thursday for DUI and drag-racing was irresistible fodder for TV's late-night talk-show hosts.
The combination of Bieber's alleged antics (blocking off a residential block in Miami beach to drag-race a rented Lamborghini) and public persona (not quite universally loved) was the equivalent of a slow pitch up the middle for our nation's monologists, and with a full workday to brainstorm their barbs, they did not disappoint.
