Kellie Pickler Nominates Katharine McPhee for Dancing with the Stars
Originally posted 05/13/2013 04:15PM
She's made the reality television leap from singing on season 5 of American Idol to tearing up the parquet each week on Dancing with the Stars, but even Kellie Pickler thinks there's an Idol alum she'd rather see getting fake tanned and sequined.
Katharine McPhee "would do amazing," Pickler told PEOPLE while at the 20th Annual Race to Erase MS event in Beverly Hills.
The "Best Days of Your Life" singer doesn't have to stretch her imagination too far to explain why she feels the Smash actress would dominate on Dancing with the Stars.
"First of all, she's an amazing performer – obviously a very talented singer," says Pickler, 26, "but if you've seen her show Smash, she's dancing. I really don't think there's anything she can't do."

Smash: Which Diva Delivers in Season 2?
Originally posted 02/06/2013 10:20AM
Smash is back! And NBC's musical about musicals is delivering a new diva – and even more drama – in season 2.
After a solid preview in Boston, the cast of the Marilyn Monroe musical Bombshell – including dueling divas Karen Cartwright (Katharine McPhee) and Ivy Lynn (Megan Hilty) – are back in the Big Apple and hoping to make their Broadway debut at the fabled St. James Theatre.
But opening isn't going to be easy: Bombshell producer Eileen Rand's ex-husband launches a plan to make her funding disappear and close down the show. While Eileen (Anjelica Huston) and her team, director Derek Wills (Jack Davenport) and writers Julia Houston (Debra Messing) and Tom Levitt (Christian Borle), do their best to keep up appearances, Smash's characters deal with a variety of other problems.

Last July when emerging R&B star Frank Ocean published an emotional letter detailing an early love affair with a man, his "coming out" story made headlines in the hip-hop world and beyond.
Now, the Grammy-nominated songwriter is being honored by GLAAD, the nation's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender media advocacy and anti-defamation organization.
Ocean is among the 120 nominees for the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, the organization announced early Wednesday morning. He is being recognized for his critically-lauded Channel Orange album.

Jennifer Hudson Hits High Notes as Broadway Diva in Smash
Originally posted 11/23/2012 03:00PM
The new trailer for season 2 of Smash opens with Katharine McPhee's character, Karen Cartwright, telling Megan Hilty's character, Ivy Lynn, to stay out of her elevator.
And that's not even the biggest diva moment!
That honor would go to show newcomer Jennifer Hudson, who will play Broadway sensation (and two-time Tony winner) Veronica Moore. There will be no shortage of powerhouse vocals from Hudson, who belts out more than a few high notes in the trailer. And looks gorgeous doing it.

Smash had some famous guest stars in its debut season, and McPhee has her favorites among them, including Bernadette Peters ("It was amazing to meet her and work with her!") and Uma Thurman ("I love her! She has a really funny and dry sense of humor.").

NBC Promises End-of-World Drama, More Spinning Chairs at Upfronts
Originally posted 05/14/2012 04:00PM
The annual TV upfronts have started in Manhattan, with the networks announcing their fall lineups and tossing sardine-size video clips into the open mouths of assembled advertisers and media people.
The big news out of NBCs presentation Monday is that The Voice, the network's standout hit, will be making more use of those wonderful swivel chairs. Yes, America, you will get to see more of Christina Aguilera swiveling, and you will be glad of it.
As to the actual new lineup ... well, NBC has had its problems with programming. Even the mightily promoted Smash, after a heavenly opening, sputtered. Its star, Katharine McPhee, was brought out not once but twice to perform at the upfront, but her show won't be back until midseason.
