Phil Keoghan to Take His Own Amazing Race
Originally posted 03/25/2009 08:00AM
He's no stranger to observing overwhelming challenges, but by his own estimation, "This is the most daunting physical thing I have ever attempted," Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan tells PEOPLE about his own amazing race – a 40-day, 39-city cycling tour from Los Angeles to New York.
Starting this Saturday, Keoghan, 41, plans to average 100 miles a day in pedal power. "Riding a bicycle is about getting back to basics," he says. "It's good for the waistline and it's good for the wallet, is what I'm saying."
But Keoghan isn't undertaking the road trip strictly for fitness. His adventure, sponsored by the health-store chain GNC, will take him to GNC outlets, to casting calls for The Amazing Race, to signings of his book No Opportunity Wasted, and to promotions of his favorite portable food NOW One Square Meals. The journey will also help him raise money and awareness for Bike MS.

The Amazing Race's Meredith and Gretchen
Originally posted 05/05/2005 04:30PM
Teaming up with fellow married couple Uchenna and Joyce Agu had been working well for retirees Meredith Smith, 69, and his wife Gretchen, 66 – the oldest players to make it to the top four in The Amazing Race's history. But the strategy finally backfired when they followed Uchenna and Joyce's lead in booking a flight from Istanbul to London, getting them to England two hours behind their rivals. And things only got worse in London, where a pair of grueling challenges – moving 160-lb. boats at Battersea Park and Meredith having to drive a double-decker bus – cemented their last-place finish. The couple from Easton, Md., talked to PEOPLE about seeing each other's strengths, making lifelong friends and getting up close with a herd of elephants.

After guiding a 600-lb. teak elephant and riding a camel in a race, boyfriends Lynn Warren and Alex Ali seemed to be successfully making their way to the pit stop at Jaswant Theda, India. But TV producers Lynn, 30, and Alex, 23, ended up at the wrong temple, which cost them valuable time and led to their last-place finish on Tuesday's The Amazing Race. The couple of almost five years finished behind their friends Gretchen and Meredith, the oldest duo to make it this far in the Race. Lynn and Alex, who live in West Hollywood, spoke to PEOPLE about how their trek strengthened their relationship and how they hope to make a positive difference in television.
