"Howard!" It was one word but it conveyed so much when Carol Ann Susi yelled it.
The actress, who played Mrs. Wolowitz on the hit CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory, died on Tuesday after a brief battle with an aggressive cancer. She was 62.
While viewers never saw her face on the show, Susi was nevertheless a strong presence, giving a loud voice to Howard's (Simon Helberg) larger-than-life, domineering mother.

PEOPLE turns 40 this year, and we have to say, it's looking pretty good for having four decades in the spotlight. Just like any other cultural institution (the White House; The Peach Pit), the magazine has made more than a few appearances in TV and movies. Let's look at some of our favorites.

Before the cast of The Big Bang Theory can get on with the business of portraying America's favorite eggheads (and one foxy, out-of-work actress), there is a customary ritual that always precedes the reading of the very first script of the season.
It usually starts with a simple question: How did you spend your summer?
Faster than you can bust out a Bazinga, details are shared in gleeful progression: Jim Parsons (Sheldon) became a Wimbledon groupie. Simon Helberg (Howard) nested at home with his second baby. Melissa Rauch (Bernadette) produced her first movie. Johnny Galecki (Leonard) jetted to Prague, Kunal Nayyar (Raj) hightailed it to India, and Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting (Penny) went all Edward Scissorhands on her hair.

"Everybody's got their feet on the ground, so it doesn't feel that much different than day one," star Simon Helberg, 33, tells PEOPLE in its new issue, on newsstands Friday.
What began as a series about four lovable brainiacs and the women who love them has blown up into the most popular sitcom on television today, but the show's stars, along with Helberg – Johnny Galecki, 39; Jim Parsons, 41; Kaley Cuoco, 28; Kunal Nayyar, 33; Mayim Bialik, 38; and Melissa Rauch, 34 – say they aim to stay as normal as possible.

The Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco has a million-dollar sense of humor to go with that million-dollar salary of hers.
The 28-year-old star of the CBS comedy posted a photo on Instagram that took playful aim at the recent nude photo leak involving female celebrities.
The picture of Cuoco (who is reportedly among those who were hacked) and her husband Ryan Sweeting shows her breasts and his crotch blurred out. Appropriately enough, she's also holding what appears to be an iPhone.
