Chaz Bono's 2013 has gotten off to a healthy start!
The former Dancing with the Stars contestant, 43, has already dropped 43 lbs. since announcing his public mission to lose 50 lbs. beginning in mid-November.
He's now upped his goal to dropping a total of 80 lbs.
"I've been sticking to a really strict diet," he tells PEOPLE. "It's not any type of starvation thing. I'm just cutting out a lot of stuff and eating primarily protein and vegetables and fruit."

Kelly Preston Opens Up About Her Late Son, Jett Travolta

Kelly Preston is speaking out about the health conditions that led to her 16-year-old son's death.
Jett Travolta – who died in 2009 after suffering a seizure and hitting his head in a bathtub at the family's vacation home at the Old Bahama Bay Hotel on Grand Bahama Island – suffered from autism, which Preston attributes to a series of contributing factors.
"[Jett] was autistic. He had seizures and when he was very young, he had Kawasaki Syndrome," she says on the Nov. 21 episode of The Doctors (check local listings).

Size matters – at least according to Chaz Bono.
The activist and former Dancing with the Stars contestant, 43, who has had an ongoing struggle with his weight, is making a public attempt to lose the pounds.
Sitting down with Dr. Travis Stork, The Doctors co-host and an ER physician, Bono says being thin in his family was "prized above all else" when he was growing up.

He may not have found lasting love on on The Bachelor, but Travis Stork got his happy ending after all!
On Saturday, The Doctors co-host wed his girlfriend of over three years, pediatrician Dr. Charlotte Brown. The couple got engaged last year, during a romantic vacation in Hawaii.
Surrounded by family and friends, the two physicians exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony nestled in the Colorado mountains – and it seems that Stork couldn't have been more thrilled.

Pregnant Man Thomas Beatie Introduces Kids

The formerly pregnant man is now a dad to three kids, and he's brought his entire brood together for a TV interview.
Thomas Beatie, who shot to fame after becoming the first known legal man to become pregnant and give birth, will appear with his three children and his wife, Nancy, on Monday's The Doctors to talk about life in a non-traditional family.
Beatie began life as a woman and legally switched to a male identity, while preserving his female reproductive organs. He made headlines in 2007 after pictures of his bearded face and pregnant belly became public.

Another former Bachelor is officially off the market! Dr. Travis Stork proposed to his girlfriend of two years, pediatrician Dr. Charlotte Brown, 28, while vacationing on the island of Lanai in Hawaii recently.
Brown accepted, and although no wedding date has been set, friends of the couple say the ER physician, who co-hosts syndicated daytime talk show The Doctors and his bride-to-be couldn't be happier!

Dr. Phil Becomes a Grandfather

Just call him Dr. Grandpa!
Talk show host and author Dr. Phil is a grandfather after son Jay McGraw and his wife Erica welcomed a daughter Thursday night, the family tells PEOPLE exclusively.
Avery Elizabeth McGraw arrived at 11:33 p.m. in Los Angeles, weighing in at 6 lbs., 6 oz., and measuring 21 inches long.
"Both Avery and Erica are resting comfortably and doing well," the McGraws said in a statement. "The entire family is overjoyed!"
Avery is the first child for Jay – executive producer of The Doctors – and Erica, who announced the pregnancy in October.
