Eva Mendes Explains Why People Think She's Pregnant on The Ellen DeGeneres Show

Originally posted 02/12/2014 10:45AM

Eva Mendes knows exactly why people think she might be expecting with her longtime beau Ryan Gosling.

"It all started because I didn't want to go through the scanners at the airport. You know, those X-ray scanners, which are really creepy," Mendes explained to Ellen DeGeneres on Wednesday's The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

"They basically see you naked, right?" said Mendes. "And not only that, but there's a radiation aspect to it, so I always opt out. I always ask for a personal pat-down. I don't mean in person, I meant in private because they can take you. Ladies, I want you to know that they can take you in private, they can take you into an area."

"Good idea. Good idea. That's the way to get a Valentine," DeGeneres joked. "Even better, you can go to an area."

There's one thing Jay Leno is looking forward to doing when he leaves The Tonight Show on Feb. 6 – going out on a weeknight instead of staying home and working on the following day's monologue.

"I can go out on a school night, which I've never been able to do," he said during an interview set to air on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday. "I've never been out in 22 years on a Wednesday night. It's like, 'Oh you're doing something wrong. You have to go home and write jokes every single night.' "

While he's 63, Leno isn't retiring anytime soon. Instead he's going back to his roots as a stand-up comedian.

Fresh from their four wins at the Grammys, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis credit famous fan Ellen DeGeneres with helping make "Same Love" a hit.

"We have a lot of praise to show you, because this was the first time that we ever performed live on television," Macklemore, 30, told DeGeneres Tuesday's episoe of her talk show. "You got behind 'Same Love' before anybody else did. Before it was a radio song, before it was out there with the video on MTV, you were behind it."

The duo first appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2012, when they performed "Same Love" – a gay rights anthem that went viral on YouTube – with vocalist Mary Lambert. Since then, the comedian has been a big advocate for their success. Macklemore and Lewis have sold 1.3 million albums and garnered more than 900 million YouTube views, impressive feats considering they are independent artists without a music label.

When this year's Oscar nominations were announced Thursday morning, Meryl Streep says she was fast asleep, firmly convinced that her scene-stealing work in August: Osage County would be overlooked by the Academy.

"They all say, 'Oh, she doesn’t have a chance'… because I'm so old news, you know," Streep told Ellen DeGeneres in an interview set to air Monday on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, as she recounted her standing among oddsmakers.

"There is no such thing as talent being old news. That doesn't get old," DeGeneres reminded Streep amid wild cheers from the studio audience. Indeed, Streep had earned another nomination – her 18th, setting an Academy Awards record for an actor or actress.
