The Tonight Show

When Seth MacFarlane and Bill Maher drop by your show to sing to you, you know you're not going to get a sentimental rendition of "The Best Is Yet to Come."
The pair said their goodbyes to Jay Leno on The Tonight Show Wednesday in swinging fashion, serenading the departing host with a song that thanked Leno for "the memories you gave," but mostly for "your rivalry with Dave [Letterman]" and "the beating that you gave."
The pair aren't referring to some previously hidden parking-lot dust-up between the two iconic late-night hosts, but rather, as Maher sings, the fact that "you crushed him in the ratings, and you'll take that to your grave!"

Seth Meyers is preparing to take the reins of Late Night from Jimmy Fallon when the latter moves to The Tonight Show, and Fallon had his successor on the show Tuesday night for an important tradition: the passing of the Late Night pickle.
This isn't just Fallon being Fallon, however: Apparently it's a real, longstanding Late Night tradition. David Letterman's staff gave the pickle to Conan O'Brien when he inherited the show, and O'Brien gave it to Fallon when he took over.

Just so you know, Jimmy Fallon has a fallback idea, a Plan B if taking over The Tonight Show, his dream showbiz job, doesn't work out.
In an interview with himself, for the March Men's Health, the smartly comedic Fallon, 39, offers a charming heart-to-heart chat, noting he's ready to become a mail carrier – he already took the test – if his historic gig on the NBC talk show falls apart when he takes over for Jay Leno on Feb. 17.
In addition to wearing shorts in the summer, "You also get to drive that vehicle that should be illegal in the United States where the steering wheel is on the other side," Fallon says gleefully of the government perks of going postal. "They have no rules. They are the punk rock of government jobs."

Looks like somebody's all revved up to celebrate the start of 2014.
Jimmy Fallon's daughter, Winnie, has an expression on her face that says, "Bring on the festivities!"
The doting dad posted a pic of his 5-month-old on Instagram, captioning it, "I heard 2014 is gonna be more fun than 2013."
For Winnie, the new year will bring lots of firsts – solid food! Crawling! Walking! Talking!

Melissa McCarthy's ELLE magazine controversy now has a name: Jacket Gate.

Seth Meyers will replace Jimmy Fallon as the host of Late Night.
"We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation. His years at SNL's 'Weekend Update' desk, not to mention being head writer of the show for many seasons, helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the Late Night franchise," NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt said Sunday.
