The Xs and Os were flying between X-Files stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson Tuesday night.

Now that the reboot of the cult classic is a go on Fox as a six-episode series, Mulder and Scully renewed their romance on stage at The Cutting Room in New York City, where Duchovny sang songs from his debut album Hell or Highwater.

It might take a few days for the actors to feel at home again, but David Duchovny guarantees that The X-Files reboot will be one crazy ride when it hits your TV screen.

"It's been a while since I've played Mulder, so it's going to be strange, for sure, the first couple days," the actor, 54, tells the Hollywood Reporter of returning to his famous supernatural-investigating FBI agent character for a six-episode series.

David Duchovny, who played Agent Fox Scully on Fox's long-running drama The X-Files, shared some juicy casting news with David Letterman on Tuesday about Fox's planned revival of the sci-fi franchise.

Duchovny, who together with Gillian Anderson, will reprise their cult-favorite characters, told The Late Show host that the Cigarette Smoking Man, a.k.a. Cancer Man, or simply CSM, will stage a comeback in the six-episode event series.

Thirteen years since the original sci-fi hit wrapped its run, The X-Files is returning to Fox in a new six-episode event series – and David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are set to reprise the cult-favorite characters.

The original series creator, Chris Carter, will helm the reboot of the sci-fi procedural, which will follow the FBI agents in six new science-fiction investigations, Fox Television Group announced Tuesday.

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, the stars of TV's The X-Files and its two hit film sequels, certainly hinted at that possibility on Thursday at Comic-Con in San Diego.

Delighting fans who came to celebrate the show's 20th anniversary, Anderson, 44, said she would not be interested in doing the series again but added – to a roar of audience approval – that "a film would be great."
