Killing off a main character in a television show is a risky move: You're upending the show's world (and putting a coworker out of a job) in the hope that the shake-up will lead to something greater down the line. And guess what? Despite the ministrations of fans, who claim that they will never watch their favorite show without [insert character name here], it often works!

SPOILER ALERT: The text below reveals major plot points to the Monday, March 17, episode of MTV's Teen Wolf
MTV is launching a special website for angst-ridden fans of its Teen Wolf series to collectively mourn the sudden death of one of the show's main characters in Monday night's episode.
Immediately after the third season's penultimate episode ended at 11 p.m. ET, MTV had the site TeenWolfMemorial.com ready to offer solace for people upset that the character Allison Argent wound up on the wrong end of a sword wielded by a mythical Japanese demon.
Argent, played by actress Crystal Reed, is the ex-girlfriend of Scott McCall, the drama's lead character.
Argent's death shouldn't entirely be a surprise; MTV has been advertising that one of the show's main characters would be killed off. The network kept that character's identity a secret, although the announcement that someone was doomed launched plenty of online speculation.

Arriving around 10:45 p.m. Hale – wearing a short white dress – and Haynes spent their evening with a big group of friends, who looked happy to be together.
"They were both in a great mood and enjoying the company," an onlooker tells PEOPLE.
Hale sipped on a glass of white wine as she excitedly chatted with a blonde female friend. Meanwhile, Haynes and friends ordered and shared several desserts just before midnight.
