The Most Talked-About Facebook Topic of 2013 Might Surprise You

Originally posted 12/10/2013 07:30AM

Facebook just released its 2013 Year in Review stats, and they're a great snapshot of 2013 as we get ready to bid the year farewell.

The site shared the top life events globally, the top check-ins around the world, and the most-discussed topics throughout the year.

The top life event was "added a relationship, got engaged, or got married," followed by "traveled" and "moved." On a more bittersweet note, "ended a relationship" was No. 4, though "first met a friend" and "added a family member, expecting or had a baby" were Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.

Strangely, "got a piercing" came in at No. 9: Of life's (and Facebook's) rich tapestry of events, that seems like an outlier amid a field that also included "lost a loved one" at No. 8.

Daniel Radcliffe enjoys his privacy, and to help maintain it, he keeps away from social media and movie premieres for films that aren't his own.

"There's certain things you can make a lot easier on yourself," Radcliffe, 24, tells the U.K.'s Sky News. "If you don't, for instance, go to premieres that aren't [for] a film you're in, or don't just turn up at other events and stuff like that, then that's obviously gonna help to not fuel [interest]."

Radcliffe adds that when celebrities regularly divulge details of their lives on Twitter, it makes their requests for privacy seem less genuine.

Lose the Facebook Riddle? 8 Hilarious Giraffes to Win the Day

Originally posted 10/29/2013 05:30PM

If your Facebook feed is starting to resemble a zoo registry, your friends have likely discovered – and failed at – the Great Giraffe Challenge, a new game that's stretching its long neck across the Internet.

Here's how it goes:

"It's 3:00 am, the doorbell rings and you wake up. Unexpected visitors. It's your parents and they are there for breakfast. You have strawberry jam, honey, wine, bread and cheese. What is the first thing you open?"

According to the riddle's rules, set forth by vlogger Andrew Strugnell via YouTube and Facebook last week, those who fail to answer correctly must replace their Facebook profile picture with a photo of a giraffe, accompanied by the following explanation: "I've changed my profile to a giraffe. I tried to answer a riddle and got it wrong. Try the great giraffe challenge!"
