Second-season Bachelor Aaron Buerge – whose on-air, 2002 engagement to elementary school psychologist Helene Eksterowicz had run its course by that year's end – completed his turnaround by marrying the former Angye McIntosh beneath a spread of flowing drapes Aug. 8 in the Grande Ballroom of the Historic Vandivort Centre in the couple's hometown of Springfield, Mo.

"They seemed happy and genuinely excited to tie the knot," says a guest who celebrated with Buerge, 35, a banker and restaurant owner, and McIntosh, 33, a commercial insurance agent. "Obviously, Angye was beautiful. He's got a lovely bride."

Pastel green-and-pink accents – from the table settings to the four-tiered cake iced to resemble wrapped gifts – decorated the room as her father gave away the bride, who wore a cream-colored dress. With 75 guests in attendance, the two walked toward an altar fashioned from four columns draped with white curtains. Following a brief exchange of vows, the newlyweds "buzzed out of the hall," says the guest, "everybody got themselves ready, and then they were re-introduced as a couple."

Cut to a few years later and Buerge has finally found his mate – and it was love at first bite.

"Long story short, I got some hot dog mustard on her the first time we met," says Buerge, 35, the banker and restaurant owner who confirms to PEOPLE that he will marry his bride-to-be, Angye McIntosh, 33, a commercial insurance agent, on Aug. 8 in their hometown of Springfield, Mo.
