Last July when emerging R&B star Frank Ocean published an emotional letter detailing an early love affair with a man, his "coming out" story made headlines in the hip-hop world and beyond.
Now, the Grammy-nominated songwriter is being honored by GLAAD, the nation's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender media advocacy and anti-defamation organization.
Ocean is among the 120 nominees for the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, the organization announced early Wednesday morning. He is being recognized for his critically-lauded Channel Orange album.
Other musician nominees include Adam Lambert (for his album Tresspassing).

He took the world by storm as a contestant on American Idol. But does Adam Lambert have what it takes to sit on the other side of the judges' table?
Lambert, 30, is reportedly among those being considered for a judging role if Jennifer Lopez doesn't return, according to an E! Online report.
The season 8 singer, who finished as runner-up to Kris Allen in probably the biggest Idol upset ever, is one of the show's biggest stars, and has the outsize personality that would seem perfect for television.

How do you follow up a Best Actress Oscar win?
For Meryl Streep, it seems a burger will do! The actress (who won for her starring role in The Iron Lady) indulged at the Weinstein afterparty at the Mondrian Hotel, ordering Fatburger, which was being served at the bash.
Earlier in Hollywood, the stars came out for Elton John's 20th Annual Academy Awards Viewing Party – and were captivated by Streep's shocked reaction to her win (along with Octavia Spencer's emotional victory and Christopher Plummer's charming speech).
As for the host of the evening, John told PEOPLE that his party serves as a fabulous meet and greet and a chance to watch the Oscars in star company. "At the end of the day, you come away with such happy memories," he said. "I've never met Katy Perry – she's at my table tonight."

Adam Lambert and boyfriend Sauli Koskinen appear to be way past the alleged drunken bar fight that got them arrested in Helsinki last Thursday.
Right after the mishap, Lambert, 29, said he and his Finnish Big Brother winner beau, 26, were "laughing bout it," and blamed jetlag and vodka for the ordeal. And it seems the family of Lambert's significant other hasn't taken the arrest too seriously either.
"Xmas Eve with the Koskinens!" the American Idol runner-up Tweeted on Saturday along with a picture of him and Koshinen decked out in a festive hat. "Just had a huge traditional Finnish feast and now opening gifts! Merry and bright!"

Adam Lambert is chagrined by his involvement in an alleged alcohol-fueled altercation with his boyfriend, Sauli Koskinen, in Finland earlier this week, but says the reports about the incident have been exaggerated.
"Violence is not to be taken lightly. Embarrassed by drunkenness. No punches thrown, no injuries and no charges. Media always exaggerates," the singer Tweeted Thursday night.
Lambert, 29, and Koskinen, 26, were reportedly taken to jail early Thursday morning in Helsinki, where Koskinen is a reality TV star, after getting into a fight in a well-known gay club.

Adam Lambert and his boyfriend, Finnish reality star Sauli Koskinen, were both jailed in Helsinki early Thursday morning after reportedly getting into a dispute that led to a physical altercation at a bar.
Lambert, 29, a former American Idol runner-up, and Koskinen, 26, a winner of the Finnish version of Big Brother, were held for questioning as local police looked into four possible assault offenses, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
They were released Thursday afternoon. Koskinen then blogged about the incident, suggesting the pair had patched things up.

American Idol fans tuned in to the season 10 premiere last week to see how the new crop of contestants – and judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler – would fare in the first season without Simon Cowell.
While some critics have already accused the newbies of being too nice, there's one insider who anticipates they'll do just fine.
"They both have a lot of experience in the business, and I have a feeling they're both going to be really straight ahead with people, which is always really helpful," season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert tells PEOPLE of the latest additions to the panel.
Lambert, who skipped the premiere episode Wednesday night to attend an Elton John benefit concert for the American Foundation for Equal Rights, hasn't met Lopez or Tyler yet but says he looks forward to watching them later this season – after he gets his TiVo set up in his new Los Angeles home.
