Alec Baldwin Channels His Feminine Side

With some of Hollywood's most talented, glamorous and iconic females assembled in one room for Elle Magazine's 16th Annual Women in Hollywood tribute, it seemed next to impossible for a man to steal the show. But Alec Baldwin did just that, leaving the ladies rolling in the aisles while serving as the event's first male host.

During Baldwin's Dean Martin-esue stint at the dais, he had the largely female audience women – including Katie Holmes, Renée Zellweger, Emily Blunt, Julianne Moore, Robin Wright and Julie Andrews – shrieking with laughter as he took aim at a variety of topics.

"I want to assure you that I didn't steal this role from a more qualified woman," Baldwin joked with the crowd at the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles Monday night. "There was an audition process. The audition required me to move a couch, fall asleep in front of the TV, and open a particularly stubborn jar of pickles."

If Alec Baldwin had the authority of power executive Jack Donaghy, his character on 30 Rock, he'd know exactly what his first decision would be for the Emmy-winning outstanding comedy series.

"I want [Paul] McCartney to come on," Baldwin, 51, said backstage at Los Angeles's Nokia Theater during Sunday's Emmy Awards. "We're working on it."

Baldwin's daughter, Ireland, 14, has another idea, however: Robert Pattinson.

Sunday night's 61st Primetime Emmy Awards got off to a big yuk even though the first winner of the evening, Kristin Chenoweth, dissolved into tears as she accepted her golden statuette as best supporting actress in a comedy series – ABC's canceled Pushing Daisies.

"I don't know why I'm crying," she said, after thanking her parents. "I'm unemployed now, and I'd like to be on Mad Men. I also like The Office and '24'." Chenoweth concluded by thanking the TV Academy for recognizing a show no longer on the air.

Laughs were the order of the night. When Alec Baldwin delivered his Emmy acceptance speech for best actor in a comedy series, the 30 Rock star, grabbing his statuette from presenter Rob Lowe, told the crowd, "I'd trade this to look like him."

Supporting actor in a sitcom, Jon Cryer, took the Emmy for CBS's Two and a Half Men. Accepting, he said he used to think awards were shallow displays of popularity, while now he sees that they recognize true achievement. He also said of costar Charlie Sheen, "He's amazing."

Sen. Joe Lieberman isn't exactly shaking in his boots over the notion of a challenge to his office from Alec Baldwin.

On CNN's State of the Union Sunday, Lieberman responded with a chuckle to the 30 Rock actor's claim in a recent Playboy interview that he'd consider moving to Connecticut to run against Lieberman.

"You know, make my day," the Democrat, 67, told CNN's John King with a laugh.

It was the private voicemail message not meant to be shared and yet ended up being heard by nearly everyone – Alec Baldwin's angry April 2007 tirade against his daughter, Ireland, accusing the then-11-year-old of being a "rude little pig" who needed to have her "ass straightened out" after she had "humiliated me for the last time."

Only now, as the Emmy-winning 30 Rock star admits in a candid interview with Playboy for its July/August issue (on newsstands and online Friday), after the phone message was exposed, he contemplated killing himself.

So how does Alec Baldwin's 30 Rock character Jack Donaghy make amends for his admittedly misguided job last season with the Bush administration?

"I would like Michelle Obama on 30 Rock," Baldwin told Hollyscoop.com at the premiere of Lymelife on Wednesday at the 14th Annual Gen Art Film Festival in New York.

Baldwin, who turns 51 on Friday, says he's more interested in getting the First Lady on the show than her husband because, "the President is on TV every day, all day. So we want to get something different."

What does Salma Hayek use for inspiration when locking lips with Alec Baldwin on 30 Rock? Her ex-fiancé and current boyfriend, Francois-Henri Pinault.

"I keep telling Francois, 'I Imagine I was kissing you,' " Hayek, who is doing a guest stint on 30 Rock as Baldwin's girlfriend, said on The Rachael Ray Show for a segment that airs Wednesday.

A year after an irate voicemail message that Alec Baldwin left for his daughter, Ireland, leaked on the Internet, the actor proved that the two have put hard feelings behind them.

Baldwin gave Ireland a shout-out after winning a Golden Globe recently – and he brought her even closer to the action at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday. The 30 Rock star – and SAG Award winner – took his stunning 13-year-old to the ceremony as his date.

Accepting his outstanding male actor in a comedy series honor, Baldwin thanked his castmates, saying, "I get to do this show with a bunch of people who are just the funniest and sweetest people.”

At the recent Golden Globe ceremony, the actor acknowledged his daughter, whom he said made him "laugh while I'm at home."

Step aside, Jennifer Aniston. You're no longer Alec Baldwin's favorite 30 Rock guest star.

That honor belongs to Salma Hayek, who played the actor's love interest for five episodes.

"She was literally the most fabulous woman that I've ever worked with," Baldwin recently told PEOPLE.

And at last night's CNN "Heroes" tribute award show, Hayek was quick to return the praise.

"We had such a great time!" she told PEOPLE, "I love Alec to death. He energizes me ... because he's so talented. He really, truly inspires me."
