Now that's what we call taking a hearty bite out of an auction.
New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez jetted off to the Dominican Republic to help out his pal, Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, who played host for the sixth annual David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic, which unspooled from Thursday to Saturday.
As part of the event, Rodriguez, 38, who had a rough year after being suspended from baseball in August over allegations he used performance-enhancing drugs, donated a charity lunch date that was auctioned off to fans willing to pony up big bucks for a plum meal with the baseball superstar.
Those big bucks came pouring in: The lunch auction ended up going for $13,000.

Alex Rodriguez will have a one-of-a-kind day on Monday. He received a lengthy suspension from baseball and then will head to the ballpark to play for the New York Yankees for the first time this season.
A-Rod's suspension, through the 2014 season (pending appeal), was announced as part of Major League Baseball's latest drug investigation, a person familiar with the decision told the Associated Press.
Major League Baseball informed the Yankees on Sunday that A-Rod will be suspended for his links to a clinic accused of distributing banned performance-enhancing drugs, the person said, speaking on condition of anonymity because no statement was authorized.

The slugger (a.k.a. A-Rod) – who's been romantically linked in the past to Cameron Diaz, Kate Hudson and Madonna – is among the names of more than 20 players connected to a Miami anti-aging clinic, Biogenesis of America, whose owner has agreed to speak to Major League Baseball about the distribution of performance-enhancing drugs to its players, according to reports.
"The clinic's owner, Tony Bosch, is now cooperating with the MLB investigation," ESPN reported late Tuesday.

The actress, who may be in town to support her rumored beau, art dealer Vito Schnabel, 26, started her evening Wednesday at a private event at Alex Rodriguez's home. Arriving around 8 p.m., Moore, 50, was dressed in a short blueish-gray romper and funky black glasses. Sources tell PEOPLE that she seemed calm, friendly and relaxed.
"She didn't even have a drink in hand," a source added of Moore, who spent time in treatment earlier this year.
According to one guest, Moore spent much of her time at the party in close conversation with Stacy Keibler. "They seemed like good friends," the attendee said, adding that she also chatted with Owen Wilson and Martha Stewart.
