Lance Bass: I'm Scared for Amanda Bynes

Originally posted 05/30/2013 02:00PM

Amanda Bynes's odd public behavior – and recent arrest – is worrying one of her old friends.

While calling into Las Vegas radio's Mark and Mercedes show on Wednesday, Lance Bass spoke of Bynes, saying, "It's one of those situations where obviously there's some mental problems there and she's not able to see that. We all are [able to see it]." (The actress's attorney, who's representing her in a DUI case in Los Angeles, says there's nothing to worry about, though, telling PEOPLE recently, "I think Amanda's fine. I have no problems with her whatsoever. She's a fine client.")

Bass produced Love Wrecked in 2005, in which Bynes starred. The movie led to their friendship.

"I think [reports] are way exaggerated," Richard Hutton told PEOPLE on Wednesday in Beverly Hills, shortly after a hearing on his client's case. "I think Amanda's fine. I have no problems with her whatsoever. She's a fine client."

Hutton, who has spoken to Bynes, 27, recently, says, "Every time I've talked to her, I've had nice, attorney-client normal relations with her."

Mara Wilson Lists Reasons Why Former Child Stars 'Go Crazy'

Originally posted 05/29/2013 12:30PM

Despite the history of former child stars having trouble transitioning into adulthood – as evidenced by Britney Spears's public meltdown in 2008, Lindsay Lohan's ongoing troubles, and, most recently, the upheavals taking place in the life of Amanda Bynes – former child star Mara Wilson said she "had a generally good experience" standing before the cameras in Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), Miracle on 34th Street (1994) and Matilda (1996).

She also clearly developed a pro's perspective on what can happen as a child star matures – because she's now shared her thoughts in a breezy yet thoughtful essay on the Cracked.com humor site, titled "7 Reasons Child Stars Go Crazy."

In it, the 25-year-old gets a handle on why "not many child stars make it out of Hollywood alive or sane." She also sheds light on why "at any given time there are at least three former ones having very public breakdowns."

Just two days after Amanda Bynes was arrested for allegedly throwing a bong out of her 36th-floor New York apartment window and smoking pot in the lobby of her building, the troubled actress has taken to Twitter again to deny the charges – and make some accusations of her own against a police officer who arrested her.

"Don't believe the reports about me being arrested. It's all lies," she Tweeted Saturday afternoon.

"I was sexually harassed by one of the cops the night before last which is who then arrested me. He lied and said I threw a bong out the window when I opened the window for fresh air. Hilarious. He slapped my vagina. Sexual harassment. Big deal. I then called the cops on him. He handcuffed me, which I resisted, quite unlike any of the reports stated."
