Where's Maks?
The Dancing with the Stars season 16 contestants and their pro partners were announced at a live event Tuesday morning in Los Angeles. And when the dust settled, fans may have been left wondering why Maksim Chmerkovskiy wasn't among the pairs.
The outspoken pro, who has competed in 13 of the past 15 season but never won, released a statement about sitting out the current competition, which begins March 18.
"I just want to set the record straight to all of my amazing fans that I will unfortunately not be returning for this season of Dancing with the Stars," he said in the statement.

As a judge on Dancing with the Stars, Carrie Ann Inaba normally tells contestants how to break it down on the dance floor.
But as she learned that pro dancers Anna Trebunskaya and Jonathan Roberts decided to end their nine-year marriage, the recently single Inaba offered her own words of wisdom on what she described as a "part of life": the breakup.
"Listen, I've been through my own breakups, and they happen," she told PEOPLE at Saturday's Carousel of Hope benefit in Beverly Hills. "I think that people that have the courage to break up and pursue their dream and their real happiness – you have to honor that."

Drew Lachey Blogs: All Good Things Must Come to an End

Drew Lachey is a member of 98 Degrees and he starred on Broadway in Monty Python's Spamalot and Rent. He is the season 2 winner of Dancing with the Stars and a founder of Lachey Arts Music Theater Camp. Lachey has been blogging for PEOPLE.com about his return to the ballroom with pro Anna Trebunskaya for the DWTS all-stars season – though the pair were eliminated on Oct. 9.
Well, all good things must come to an end. This past Monday, Helio [Castroneves] and I were the victims of a double elimination. I wish I could say this came as a complete surprise, but that wouldn't be all together true.
I had already been in the bottom 2 in week one, and my judges' scores weren't as good as some of the other competitors. Even with those facts, I thought our cha-cha was good enough to keep us in the competition. Anna and I were the first couple to perform this week, and we scored a 24 with our dance that we performed to Beyoncé's "Crazy in Love."

Lachey supported his partner's sentiments.

Well, it has been an eventful week. It started off with Joey Fatone being eliminated from the competition. This came as a shock to all of us. With scores in the middle of the pack and a strong fan base, everybody thought he would be safe.
Joey was the person who was always cracking a joke and keeping it light when things would get stressful. It just once again shows you that this show is about so much more than just dancing. He will be missed.

This has been an eventful – and stressful – week, to say the least. This past results show proves that it isn’t only about how well you dance, but also how many people you have voting for you.
