Two months after losing her beloved fox terrier in an apartment fire, Twilight's Ashley Greene has found a surefire way to move forward with her loss: shifting her focus to helping others.
"Obviously, I've had a rough few months, but I'm doing okay," she tells PEOPLE. "I'm exploring new opportunities, and I try to participate in charity events as much as possible."
"It's very important to me to focus on others, not just myself. You look at children with cancer and you think, 'Wow, it really puts my own problems into perspective.' Not to say that what we all go through isn't important, but there are people who have much greater problems that they deal with every day."

Ashley Greene's West Hollywood condo caught fire on Friday, her rep confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.
"The cause is undetermined," said the actress's spokesperson. No further details were provided, but according to TMZ, who first posted news of the blaze, law enforcement says that an unattended candle started the fire on the couch.
A source tells PEOPLE that the Twilight star's two fox terriers were in the apartment at the time. Rescuers were able to save one.
TMZ.com also reports that 10 fire trucks arrived on the scene of the seven-story building after the fire began while Greene was asleep. Greene's dog reportedly died under the bed.

When Breaking Dawn: Part 2 opens this week, Ashley Greene hopes fans can concentrate on the big screen action – and forget about the off-screen drama surrounding the film's two main stars.
Of course, over the last several months Twi-hards have been enthralled with the ups and downs of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson's all-too-real breakup due to her cheating scandal and eventual reconciliation.
Asked if she thinks audiences will be affected by the couple's issues, Greene, 25, tells Seventeen, "I don’t know. Hopefully, it won’t taint it and people will still be able to enjoy the movie. I think a lot of people see us as our characters; I really want them to still be able to do that."

There are three things most people are very opinionated about: religion, politics and who has the finest, fittest female body in film.
For those of you who read my blog last week, I presented a list of the fittest male physiques in movie history. Some agreed, some didn't. But my list of women must be handled with a bit more finesse.
First, what defines the "best" female film body?

Ashley Greene treated two of her besties – pups Marlo and Theo – to lunch in Santa Monica, Calif., keeping them close while she dined at Catch Restaurant in the Hotel Casa del Mar.
Greene, there with a guy friend, was dressed casually in a tan tank top, jean shorts and navy Tory Burch flats, and kept a low profile as she ate. Throughout the meal, the Twilight star "doted on her pups, talking and playing with them," an onlooker tells PEOPLE.
Wonder if she took a doggie bag?

Even vampires need to re-evaluate their love lives. Just ask Twilight star Ashley Greene.
"I'm always here and there – everyone in my industry is – and that's why a lot of relationships are fleeting," the actress, 25, tells Marie Claire in its November cover story, on newsstands Oct. 23.
And while the upcoming Nov. 16 release of Breaking Dawn – Part 2 has put a spotlight on the supernatural franchise's real-life romantic ups and downs between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, Greene's own challenge is balancing her career with her personal life.
"I've gotten very good at detaching whenever I have to go away for three months, which I realize is hard on friends and kind of selfish," says the Florida native. "You go on a couple of dates, and then someone ships off to do a movie. It's not like you're going to fly out and see them, because it's not serious enough for that."

From Twilight to late-night!
Ashley Greene enjoyed a night out with pals at Bootsy Bellows in West Hollywood, Calif., on Tuesday.
Casually dressed in a black t-shirt, jeans and black flats, the Apparition actress kept a low profile throughout the evening as she nestled into a VIP room with friends.
While the DJ spun hit after hit, Greene preferred to keep things quiet, opting for quiet conversation, as she enjoyed vodka cranberry cocktails.
"She stayed until the lights came on just after 2:00 AM," says a source, "And responsibly took a cab home."
