[YOUTUBE "IWbGtAWi3QY"] There comes a time when a pop star needs to throw off the shackles of her old identity and embrace a new culture – specifically, someone else's culture. On Tuesday, Avril Lavigne reached that moment.
Lavigne had flown under the radar since her "Sk8r Boi" heyday, releasing a few albums of pretty-good music that all got less attention than her marriage to Chad Kroeger.
That changed with the arrival of "Hello Kitty," the fourth single from Lavigne's 2013 self-titled album, which is quickly reminding us that there's no news like bad news to a pop provocateur.

It's not always easy being married, but when you're a celebrity, it often seems downright impossible.
Which is why newlyweds Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger have some special "rules" set in place to keep things harmonious.
"When you have something special, you can't take it for granted and be careless with it," Lavigne, 29, exclusively tells PEOPLE. "We want to give it all the care and love and nurturing that we can."
Here's how Kroeger, 38, and Lavigne make it work:

Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger open up about their whirlwind courtship and lasting love

When Avril Lavigne and Nickelback lead singer Chad Kroeger first met, it was strictly for professional reasons – they were just supposed to write a couple of songs together for Lavigne's new self-titled album (out Nov. 5). What actually happened is another story altogether.
"We bonded like crazy. It was like we'd known each other forever," Lavigne, 29, tells PEOPLE exclusively. "It's a very intimate process, and you have to really open up when you're songwriting. When it was over and I had to go work with other people, it sucked. So I called him and asked him to come back to L.A. to do some more writing with me, and he was like, 'Hell yeah!' "
Soon the two had fallen for each other romantically – and written enough love ballads to fill several albums.

Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger can tell you exactly how long he's been married.
In an interview with ET Canada airing Tuesday, the 38-year-old who tied the knot with Avril Lavigne in July, says, "married life's good. It's been 94 days. I could give you, like, to the hour if needed."
The couple, who wed in France in a 14th-century castle, are still in the honeymoon phase but Kroeger says he's already learned a valuable lesson about marriage: "Happy wife, happy life," he laughs. "I think every man learns that quick. Really quick."

Avril Lavigne is in a good place.
She's a giddy newlywed, she's got a new, self-titled album due Nov. 5, and she's ready for a baby – eventually.
"I do [feel pressure to start a family] now that I'm married," Lavigne says in an interview on The Lowdown with Diana Madison.
But, she adds, "I want to be ready. I'm focusing on my music. I'm just releasing a new record. This is my priority and my baby right now."
