It's not always easy being married, but when you're a celebrity, it often seems downright impossible.
Which is why newlyweds Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger have some special "rules" set in place to keep things harmonious.
"When you have something special, you can't take it for granted and be careless with it," Lavigne, 29, exclusively tells PEOPLE. "We want to give it all the care and love and nurturing that we can."
Here's how Kroeger, 38, and Lavigne make it work:

"We bonded like crazy. It was like we'd known each other forever," Lavigne, 29, tells PEOPLE exclusively. "It's a very intimate process, and you have to really open up when you're songwriting. When it was over and I had to go work with other people, it sucked. So I called him and asked him to come back to L.A. to do some more writing with me, and he was like, 'Hell yeah!' "
Soon the two had fallen for each other romantically – and written enough love ballads to fill several albums.

Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger can tell you exactly how long he's been married.
In an interview with ET Canada airing Tuesday, the 38-year-old who tied the knot with Avril Lavigne in July, says, "married life's good. It's been 94 days. I could give you, like, to the hour if needed."
The couple, who wed in France in a 14th-century castle, are still in the honeymoon phase but Kroeger says he's already learned a valuable lesson about marriage: "Happy wife, happy life," he laughs. "I think every man learns that quick. Really quick."

Avril Lavigne is in a good place.
She's a giddy newlywed, she's got a new, self-titled album due Nov. 5, and she's ready for a baby – eventually.
"I do [feel pressure to start a family] now that I'm married," Lavigne says in an interview on The Lowdown with Diana Madison.
But, she adds, "I want to be ready. I'm focusing on my music. I'm just releasing a new record. This is my priority and my baby right now."

Winnie Cooper, is that you?
Wonder Years star Danica McKellar got a sexy makeover for her role in Avril Lavigne's video for her new song, "Rock N Roll."
Photos taken on the set Thursday show the 38-year-old flaunting her killer abs in a skimpy outfit paired with fishnet tights that showcased her legs.
"Just had the best time shooting @AvrilLavigne's new video. And she is so sweet and fun! Made me feel like a rock star. ;)" the New York Times best-selling author and math expert Tweeted.
