Barry Bonds Hits a Personal Home Run

With his baseball career in question, all-time home-run leader Barry Bonds is looking forward to starting the New Year off right.
"I am going skiing with my children then I'm going on my ten year anniversary," Bonds tells PEOPLE in his first media interview since being indicted on Nov. 15. "I got my wife a good vacation out of the country."
It's no surprise Bonds wants to disappear for a while. The sports legend is currently battling four counts of perjury and obstruction of justice for allegedly lying under oath during the federal grand jury trial investigating steroid use among pro athletes. In a message to his fans posted on his website, Bonds was confident he would be cleared of all charges. "I still have confidence in the judicial system and especially in the judgment of the citizens who will decide this case," he wrote on Dec. 6, "I will be vindicated because I am innocent."

Baseball's all-time home-run leader, Barry Bonds, was indicted Thursday on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice for allegedly lying under oath to a federal grand jury looking into steroid use among pro athletes.

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom has declared Wednesday Barry Bonds Day in the City by the Bay, following the Giants slugger's hitting his 756th home run Tuesday night.

NEWS BRIEFS: Love Burgled, She Says

CLAIMED: Courtney Love, 39, tells New York's Daily News that a woman posing as a housekeeper robbed her Manhattan apartment. "She sat in the lobby for five hours and the concierge wouldn't let her up," the former Hole singer, 39, is quoted as saying, "then she got in somehow and took all the cash in the house." Love says it was no more than $600, though bank documents also were stolen. This Friday in L.A., Love is due in court to face accusations against her, on disorderly conduct and drug charges.
