Billy Corgan, the singer of the 1990s Chicago alt-rock band Smashing Pumpkins, collapsed while performing a song with his band during a show in Tampa, Fla., on Thursday.
"That wasn't a stage move or clumsiness," the musician, 43, later wrote on Twitter. "That was me blacking out and wiping out."
Corgan, recently rumored to be romantically linked to Jessica Simpson, will continue touring despite the mishap – though fans in his next stop, Knoxville, Tenn., might hear more slow ballads than they expected.

Billy Corgan is no John Mayer.
When asked by Rolling Stone about Jessica Simpson, the former Smashing Pumpkins frontman riffs on relationships in general but remains discreet about Simpson in particular.
"If I go, 'Oh, we're just friends,' then it's like, 'Did they go out, did he dump her or she dump him, what happened?' It has nothing to do with any of that."

When Jessica Simpson released photos of her laughter-filled recording sessions with Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan last month, buzz that the two are dating reached its highest volume yet.
At the time, a source told PEOPLE, "He got her number and starting calling her. He thought she was cute ... adorable ... and she got a little crush."
Now Corgan himself has clarified the nature of their relationship – sort of. "[Simpson] asked me to help her out on the theme song for her new TV show," he told the Chicago Tribune of the alterna-pop tune he composed for VH1’s The Price of Beauty, premiering Mar. 15.

Sidestepping rumors of a romance with Smashing Pumpkins lead singer Billy Corgan, Jessica Simpson is admitting to enjoying a different kind of hook-up: an artistic one.
Though the stars have stayed quiet on rumblings that they're a romantic item, Simpson, 29, writes on Twitter that the pair are collaborating on their music.
"I am blessed," the pop singer says, linking to two photographs of her with Corgan, 42, in the recording studio. She adds that it's "fun to be lost in laughter."

Jessica Simpson and Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan have started dating – and are taking things slow, says a source close to the pop star.
"They are getting to know each other," says the source. "He's a nice guy."
On Friday, Simpson, 29, and Corgan, 42, were spotted together in New York City. She was in town earlier in the week for sister Ashlee Simpson Wentz's Broadway debut in the musical Chicago.

Musical worlds are colliding, if reports that Jessica Simpson is dating the Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan are to be believed.
"She has fallen hard and is smitten," a source tells E! News, which reports that the 29-year-old romantically unlucky singer and Corgan, 42, are "officially dating."
When reached by PEOPLE, a rep for Simpson would only say she doesn’t comment on her client's personal life.
Of course, the two – photographed together in New York Friday – may simply be working on one of music's most mismatched duets, but until it hits the airwaves, this is one potential relationship we're keeping our eyes on.
