With the Lifetime biopic Whitney set to air Saturday, Cissy Houston, the mother of the iconic singer, who died in 2012, is speaking out about the TV movie that was made without the family's cooperation.
"I'm glad the Lifetime project is finished," Cissy Houston tells PEOPLE. "I hope from now on her fans will keep her child, [Bobbi Kristina Brown], in their prayers, and I hope people will let my child rest."
Adds a Houston family friend: "The family is not happy about this project. Bobby [Brown] and Whitney had a complicated relationship. I don't even think their loved ones understood it. So, for people who didn't know them to take on what, to some extent, dishonors them – and their relationship – that is the most hurtful."

Whitney Houston's iconic life and career is coming to Lifetime in January, and the trailer is finally here.
Whitney is the directorial debut for Oscar-nominated actress Angela Bassett, who worked with Houston on Waiting to Exhale in 1995.
The film stars Harlem native Yaya DaCosta, 32, as the singer, who died in February 2012. DaCosta got her start on cycle 3 of America's Next Top Model in 2004. She has since gone on to do films such as 2006's Take the Lead with Antonio Banderas, and 2013's The Butler.

As the one-year anniversary approaches of her daughter Whitney Houston's death on Feb. 11, 2012, Cissy Houston reveals for the first time how difficult it's been for her granddaughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown.
"She's not handling it good," says the matriarch. "None of us are."
"Of course I worry about her," adds Houston. "Bobbi Kristina is 19, and if you know anything about a 19-year-old, they think they know it all. It doesn't mean that she is going to follow her [mother's] same path. She could but anybody could. I don't want to jinx her. I'm trying to make sure she doesn't."

Bobby Brown checked into a confidential rehabilitation center last week as part of an agreement after his arrest for driving-related infractions, his attorney has announced.
"Mr. Brown takes his agreement very seriously and admitted himself three weeks after concluding his honeymoon in Mexico during a break from the New Edition tour," attorney Christopher Brown said in a statement. "Bobby is doing well and receiving services that comply with his agreement with the State of California."
The singer, 43, was arrested in March for driving under the influence when he was pulled over for talking on his cell phone. He then failed a field sobriety test.

Bobbi Kristina Brown is grieving the loss of her mother Whitney Houston – but the young aspiring actress didn't walk out on Tyler Perry's For Better or Worse and, in fact, did "great" work, according to the director.
On Wednesday a report surfaced that Bobbi Kristina quit the TBS comedy and walked out of the show because she is dealing with the death of her mom.
But Perry posted an adamant defense of Houston's daughter on his website saying, "Yes she was grieving, but grief aside, she managed to finish her obligation and did a great job at the same time."

It was a night of tributes at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday.
The evening's most emotional moment came during a tribute to the late Whitney Houston. While Jordin Sparks performed the singer's iconic hit "I Will Always Love You," Houston's daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, broke down in tears before taking the stage to accept the Millennium Award on her mom's behalf.
"I really want to say thank you to everyone who supported us through it all," said Brown, who stood alongside Whitney's manager and sister-in-law Patricia Houston. "Not just from when it was good but when it was bad, too. Thank you for showing that much love, because she deserved it ... I'm just blessed to have been in such an incredible woman's life. There will never be another one, ever."
