Jealousy and emotional abuse derailed Whitney Houston's once-happy marriage to Bobby Brown, the R&B diva revealed during an emotional interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Telling the talk show host about her post-Bodyguard career highs, Houston says her then-husband couldn't handle her success. "I think somewhere inside, something happens to a man when a woman has that much control or has that much fame," the singer said during her much-hyped appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show that aired Monday. (Part two of the interview will air on Tuesday).

Asked if Brown was jealous of her, Houston, 46, told Winfrey, "he's not going to like this, but yes."

As Whitney Houston bares her past troubles to Oprah Winfrey, ex-husband Bobby Brown adds his side of their tragic story, saying both were to blame for their tumultuous relationship.

"I think we corrupted each other," Brown, 40, tells The Insider. "I don't think she hurt me or I hurt her. I just think we had a 14-year marriage that had its ups and downs and not many people understood it."

Brown says he used "an awful lot" of cocaine – "a powerful drug," he notes – starting after his marriage to Houston in 1992.

Bobby Brown and his ex-wife Whitney Houston are back to being on civil terms after going through an acrimonious split and custody battle.

"We're cordial," Brown said last Thursday at the CMT session for the television critics association press tour in Beverly Hills. "We're friends."

The former couple have remained civil, he says, for the sake of their 15-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina. "She's doing really well and growing up really good," he adds of his daughter, who lives in Atlanta with her mom.

Meanwhile, Brown is returning to reality TV in August as he teams up with Maureen McCormick and Carnie Wilson for the CMT show Outsider's Inn, a spin-off of sorts from the first season of Gone Country in which the three reunite to run a bed and breakfast.

Bobby Brown is dishing on his rocky marriage to Whitney Houston in a new tell-all autobiography – but she's not letting his accusations affect her.

In this, the latest installment of the couple's long-running marital feud, Brown says of his ex, "I never used cocaine until after I met Whitney."

Details from the 39-year-old pop star's book, Bobby Brown: The Truth, the Whole Truth and Nothing But, began surfacing Thursday in the New York Post. Before Whitney, Brown writes: "I had experimented with other drugs, but marijuana was my drug of choice."

Whitney's rep responded in a statement to PEOPLE: "Miss Houston is sad that Bobby feels he need to say such things but she choses to take the high road and will not speak badly about the father of her child even if it's to set the record straight."

Bobby Brown's attempt to overturn ex-wife Whitney Houston's divorce terms was denied by an Orange County, Calif. judge Friday.

"His motion was denied because there were no appearances or phone calls from Mr. Brown today for a scheduled hearing," said court spokeswoman Carole Levitsky. "As of now, there are no more pending court dates in this case."

A rep for Brown did not immediately respond for comment.

In April 2007, Houston won a default judgment in their divorce – leaving Brown with nothing financially and only visitation rights over daughter Bobbi Kristina, 14.
