The key to surviving awards season? Being able to steal a moment of sleep anywhere and a good sense of humor.

In the past two weeks, Bradley Cooper, the Oscar-nominated star of Silver Linings Playbook, has flown from L.A. to Madrid to Paris to Rome to Manchester to Tokyo, L.A. again, New York, Washington D.C., New York and then finally L.A. (third time's the charm).

But on the road, Cooper tells PEOPLE his most poignant stop this week was Thursday's talk with military veterans at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. It was the first time he has visited the hospital, but has traveled to deployed soldiers three times with the USO.

Originally posted 01/10/2013 08:15AM

This year's Oscars may not take place until Feb. 24, but the ceremony's host, Seth MacFarlane, already started earning his salary Thursday morning – by joining Emma Stone to announce the nominees for the 85th annual Academy Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' headquarters in Beverly Hills.

And the name that kept coming up: Lincoln, which reaped the lion's share number of nominations, 12, including those for Best Picture, Best Director Steven Spielberg, Best Actor Daniel Day-Lewis and Supporting Actress Sally Field.

Other highly recognized films were Life of Pi, with 11 nominations; Les Misérables, with nine; and Argo, with seven, though, surprisingly, not one for its director Ben Affleck.

Bradley Cooper's Fans Sing 'Happy Birthday' in Palm Springs

Originally posted 01/06/2013 03:00PM

Bradley Cooper didn't necessarily have the wildest of birthday celebrations, but his special day certainly didn't go unnoticed.

The Silver Linings Playbook star, who flew in on Bombardier's Hollywood Reporter Palm Springs shuttle from Santa Monica, Calif., and turned 38 on Saturday, was greeted by a slew of screaming fans when he arrived on the red carpet at the 24th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala in Palm Springs, Calif.

"Bradley started interacting with his fans and then they broke out into song, chanting 'Happy birthday to you,'" an onlooker tells PEOPLE.

Running late into the event because of the fan holdup, Cooper whisked by many of the reporters, and when asked about his birthday plans, answered with a smile, "I'm here!"
