Trace Cyrus, Brenda Song Call Off Engagement

Trace Cyrus and actress Brenda Song have called off their engagement and ended their relationship.

"Brenda and I have decided to go our separate ways," Cyrus, 23, said in a statement. "We split up a couple of months ago. We will continue to focus on our careers."

The couple got engaged last October, but as of January, Cyrus said he and Song, 24, had not set a wedding date and were instead going to spend the year focusing on their careers.

Cyrus, the former lead singer of Metro Station, now performs under the name Ashland High, and Song recently appeared in The Social Network.

Trace Cyrus has his perfect wedding day in mind – but that doesn't mean he'll get his wish in the end.

"I want to have a Vegas wedding," Miley Cyrus's older brother, who popped the question to The Social Network actress Brenda Song in October, tells PEOPLE. "But [Brenda] doesn't want to do that, of course."

"Every girl wants a big, beautiful wedding," says Cyrus, 22. "And at the end of the day, I'll do whatever she wants."

Trace Cyrus & Brenda Song Love Nesting with Their Dogs

They got engaged last October, but Trace Cyrus and Brenda Song have been practicing for life as a unit for the past year.

"We have our first house together," the musician tells PEOPLE. "We have four dogs, so it's nice to have a house with all our dogs."

Cyrus and Song's brood includes Ashland and Panda, two Shiba Inu siblings; Nash, a Maltese; and a 3-lb. Morkie named Jack Daniels, a Christmas present for Song. "We love all our dogs," Cyrus says. "We look at them as like kids to us. They kind of consume all our time at home if we're not doing business."

Miley Cyrus is about to have a sister-in-law.

Her fellow former Disney star Brenda Song, 23, is engaged to Cyrus's older brother, Trace, 22.

"I am very excited to say, last week I asked my girlfriend Brenda Song to marry me and she said YES!" the former Metro Station rocker Tweeted on Friday. "We are both very excited to be engaged!"

Disney Pal Defends Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus already has the support of the Jonas Brothers after several personal photos of the star leaked online, but she's also getting encouragement from someone else who knows what it's like to be in the spotlight.

"Miley is probably the most charismatic and strong 15-year-old I know," Brenda Song, 20, of Disney Channel's The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, told PEOPLE at the 2008 JCPenney Asian Excellence Awards in Los Angeles. "She brushes everything off with a smile. She is truly a diva – in a very good way!"

Song was also quick to defend the Hannah Montana star's photos. "I love Miley. I think she's a very talented actress and singer," she said. "Whatever she does in her personal life is her personal life."
