Brooke Burke-Charvet: My Cats 'Rule the House'

With four kids at home, Dancing with the Stars host Brooke Burke-Charvet has a full household. But if you ask her, it's really run by her other two little ones: cats Tazzy and Willow.
"They kind of rule the house," she tells PEOPLE of her pets, whom she rescued four years ago. "They love to lounge outside in the backyard. They love to eat. They love to hang on the couch with the kids. They kind of do whatever the heck they want to do in the house, to tell you the truth."
Though she originally intended to only bring home one cat, the star says she was swayed after meeting the pair of felines – to her children's delight.

Hitting 40 is a major milestone – and for many people, time to try to turn back the clock.
Except Brooke Burke-Charvet doesn't really want to go back there.
"The 40s are a reality check," the Dancing with the Stars co-host, 41, admits in the April issue of Health, on newsstands March 15.
"I would like to slow down my aging process, but I don't want to look like a pumpkin, all swollen!"

A healthy home is a happy home for Brooke Burke-Charvet.
The mother of four kids – Neriah, 12, Sierra, 10, Rain, 6, and Shaya, 4 – hopes her lifestyle rubs off on them.
"I always tell other parents to lead by example," Burke-Charvet, 41, told PEOPLE on Tuesday. "My kids know I'm always working out and I love to cook. I'm always preparing healthy meals. I think it's also about giving them healthy options, which is so, so important. My little ones, especially, grocery shop with me. They're in the kitchen. They love to cook."

Brooke Burke-Charvet Reveals Thyroid Cancer Surgery Scar

Brooke Burke-Charvet put on a brave face Tuesday morning, recounting the emotional distress she endured leading up to her thyroidectomy.
Managing to stay smiling, the typically upbeat Dancing with the Stars co-host, 41, told Good Morning America her initial diagnosis was "shocking," adding, "I never thought I'd hear the word 'cancer' in relation to myself. The [thought] in my mind when I [heard the news] is that I'm a mother, I've got four children, I've got a family counting on me."
Burke-Charvet's brood was very supportive of her health condition, but it was especially tough for her older daughter.

Seven days after undergoing a thyroidectomy, Brooke Burke-Charvet is focusing on recovery.
On the ModernMom website, she writes, "I just got the results back from all of my tests and great news – the thyroid cancer has been removed from my body and all my lymph nodes are clear. So I'm hoping that this is the end of the story. Woohoo!!! And thank GOD!"
The Dancing with the Stars host – who has kept fans updated with her post-surgery progress via her blogs – adds that her "surgery went really well and recovery is much better than I expected it would be."

Brooke Burke-Charvet is happy to report that she's doing well after undergoing thyroid surgery on Wednesday.
The Dancing with the Stars co-host stayed optimistic when faced with the threat of thyroid cancer and preparing for the surgery. Now Brooke-Charvet is taking it easy after the successful thyroidectomy.
"I'm resting, recovering," she Tweeted Thursday, a day after her operation. "Surgery went well. Dr Adashek is a genius. Thx Dr! Feels like I got hit [by] a car :("

Dancing with the Stars's typically upbeat host Brooke Burke-Charvet was back in serious mode after the show's finale last week.
Prepping for her thyroidectomy, she wrote on her Facebook page Monday, "I'm getting ready this week for my surgery and am planning on a speedy recovery … What a crazy time, but I am surrounded with love and support and that really makes a world of difference."
The TV personality, 41 – who plans to keep fans updated on her post-surgery progress via videos on the ModernMom website – says she's "touched and appreciative to [supporters] for sharing your positive wishes for my surgery and for sharing many of your personal thyroid experiences."

Brooke Burke-Charvet's troubling diagnosis of thyroid cancer isn't slowing her down.
Even with an upcoming surgery and a thyroidectomy, the Dancing with the Stars co-host and mom has too much to live for in the moment.
"The stress and anxiety that I've been feeling is now outweighed by love and support, and it is overwhelming in the most beautiful way," Burke-Charvet, 41, wrote Tuesday on the ModernMom blog in a post called "Feeling Great and Full of LOVE!"
