It was a night of exciting performances, positive reviews from the judges and a pair of big twists for the eight remaining couples on Dancing with the Stars Monday night.
First, the pairs had to perform in an improvisational switch-up challenge, which required them to show off their ability to transition seamlessly while dancing to music that suddenly changed.
Then, at elimination time, there was an even bigger twist that one no one – not even producers – had seen coming.

With four kids at home, Dancing with the Stars host Brooke Burke-Charvet has a full household. But if you ask her, it's really run by her other two little ones: cats Tazzy and Willow.
"They kind of rule the house," she tells PEOPLE of her pets, whom she rescued four years ago. "They love to lounge outside in the backyard. They love to eat. They love to hang on the couch with the kids. They kind of do whatever the heck they want to do in the house, to tell you the truth."
Though she originally intended to only bring home one cat, the star says she was swayed after meeting the pair of felines – to her children's delight.

Brooke Burke-Charvet put on a brave face Tuesday morning, recounting the emotional distress she endured leading up to her thyroidectomy.
Managing to stay smiling, the typically upbeat Dancing with the Stars co-host, 41, told Good Morning America her initial diagnosis was "shocking," adding, "I never thought I'd hear the word 'cancer' in relation to myself. Burke-Charvet's brood was very supportive of her health condition, but it was especially tough for her older daughter.
