Though both Chrystie Scott and Linda Thompson each provided comment to Diane Sawyer for her bombshell interview with Bruce Jenner, in which he came out as transgender, Sawyer said in the interview that one of his former wives – Kris Jenner – had declined to comment.
Kris, 59, told a different story on Twitter. In response to a Tweet from Perez Hilton speculating about why Kris hadn't spoken for the special, Jenner wrote, in part, "no one asked me to comment."
A statement issued to PEOPLE on behalf of Kris Jenner attempted to clarify matters: "Kris does not have official representation but a message was left at her office and she was asked for fact checking. Kris said she was unable to respond because she had not seen the special. She did not say, 'No comment.' "
However, ABC is standing by Sawyer.
"ABC News sent an email to her publicity team more than once," reads a network statement released to PEOPLE. "They called and said no comment."

Beyond her Tweet in which she called ex-husband Bruce Jenner a "hero" for his decision to move forward with transitioning into a woman, Kris has kept fairly quiet on the subject.
However, Kathie Lee Gifford spoke up in Kris' defense on Monday. A longtime friend of the Jenners, the Today host – along with her husband, Frank – is even a godparent to Kendall and Kylie.
During her 20/20 special, Sawyer said that Kris, 59, could not be reached for comment – a charge that the Kardashian-Jenner matriarch later denied on Twitter.

Now that Bruce Jenner has finally revealed his long-held secret, his family is speaking out to show their support and to promote understanding and awareness of what it means to undergo a gender transition.
"Bruce is the most honest ... He has the biggest heart and I'm really happy for him that he is living his life the way he wants to live it and that he has found inner peace and just pure happiness," said Kim Kardashian West in a taped segment on the Today show on Monday. "That's what life is about. I don't know what life would be like if you always felt like you weren't yourself."
The reality star, 34, went on to acknowledge that she – and most of the general public – could never truly understand what her stepfather is going through, but "I don't even think we have to," she says. "I think as long as he is happy and he wants to live his life however he wants to live it, that just makes me happy and I support him 100 percent."

Bruce Jenner's first wife, Chrystie Scott, has revealed the moment he opened up to her about his gender identity – calling it a "shock."
Scott, the mother of Jenner's two oldest children, was the first person the Olympic champion confided in, he admitted in his 20/20 interview on Friday night.
In the interview, Jenner told Diane Sawyer, "For all intents and purposes, I am a woman." In the days following the interview, which drew nearly 17 million viewers to ABC, Jenner's famous family members have spoken candidly with the media regarding his transition.
On Monday, Scott – who was married to Jenner from 1972 to 1981 – opened up to George Stephanopoulos during Good Morning America's 7 a.m. hour: "I can't remember the exact words because it was such a shock to me, but he opened up his heart and confessed, and he had to share this deep, dark secret," Scott told Stephanopoulos about her ex-husband's confession from their first year of marriage.
"He told me he wanted to be a woman, and understandably, I didn't know what to say."

Bruce Jenner has a clear – and, in a way, a quite simple – plan. "Ultimately he just really wants to help people," says a source close to his family. "He is on a mission and has a lot to offer."
Indeed, once the dust settles and the world's spotlight isn't on the news surrounding his male-to-female transition, the 65-year-old former Olympian is eager to shift the focus to helping others.
"He wants to help make a difference for people struggling with empowerment," the source tells PEOPLE. "And it's not just about those who are transgender, but those who are bullied or face discrimination, whether it's racial, sexual, religious, any 'differences'. He feels very strongly about this."
Of course, as one of the most prominent celebrities to ever go public with their transition journey, Jenner will embrace his role within the transgendered community as well.
"That community is in peril and if Bruce can contribute to helping normalize it, that's very exciting to him," says the family source.
