Calista Flockhart just found a super reason to return to broadcast TV.
The actress will join the CBS project Supergirl that's in the works for fall. She will play Cat Grant in the project that will reunite her with executive producer Greg Berlanti, who worked with her on the ABC drama Brothers and Sisters.
Grant first appeared in DC Comics' Adventures of Superman in 1987. For Supergirl, the character is actually a self-made media magnate and founder of CatCo. Having started her career as a reporter, Grant built her company into a global powerhouse, which now employs Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, who will be played by Glee and Whiplash star Melissa Benoist.

Calista Flockhart took son Liam to the newly opened Dylan's Candy Bar at the Farmers Market at The Grove in Los Angeles on Sunday.
"She wasn't wearing any makeup and looked flawless," an onlooker tells PEOPLE.
Dressed casually in jeans and a loose-fitting floral top, the Brothers & Sisters actress happily watched Liam stock up on treats like Berry Blue Sour Belts and Pucker Powder.
Meanwhile Flockhart made her own small candy bag that included white chocolate-covered pretzel balls.
"She seemed happy and was enjoying watching him have so much fun," the source adds.

We know the groom wore Wrangler jeans and bride Calista Flockhart donned a simple white sundress when she tied the knot with Harrison Ford on June 15 at a no-frills outdoor ceremony on the grounds of New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson's hilltop mansion.
Still, there's one traditional – and sparkling – item that the bride is sporting: her new wedding ring. Flockhart was spotted happily wearing it this week in London, where she and son Liam, 9, went to see the action-packed dance show Stomp in the West End – and also dined at the Ivy.
And where was the handsome new groom? He's still in the Land of Enchantment – New Mexico's nickname – shooting the action-fantasy Cowboys & Aliens.
