Originally posted 05/05/2008 12:00PM

Cameron Diaz may be back to work promoting her new film, What Happens in Vegas, but her dad is never far from her thoughts – or the conversation.

After sitting down with costar Ashton Kutcher for a lighthearted interview with the Today show's Meredith Vieira, the talk briefly turned to Diaz's recent loss. (Her father, Emilio, died at age 58 from post-influenza MRSA pneumonia.)

Thankful for condolences offered by Vieira, Diaz went from all smiles to somber, saying, "I think we're just so fortunate as a family – to have the family that we have."

She also gave a shout-out to Kutcher's great parenting skills, calling Demi Moore's daughters "good girls."

Cameron Diaz Says, 'I'm in Love with Love'

Cameron Diaz has been linked to a few different guys in her time, but right now she's playing the field – or else, just being evasive. "I'm in love with love," the star, 35, tells W magazine for its May issue. "I'm in love with life. This year I just sort of decided, you know, there's a lot of things that I've been wanting to do, and I’m going to do them."

To that end, she says, "My life isn't perfect. I have my struggles; everybody does. But I want to appreciate all of the amazing things in my life. People should have the right to be happy." And while Los Angeles, which she finds overrun with paparazzi, doesn't make her happy, New York City does. "You can walk down the street and end up in a gallery or some wonderful ethnic-food restaurant, or you can stop in a shop that sells, I don't know, staplers from all over the world! You don’t get that in L.A. – that kind of, I don't know, specialty."
