Prince Charles: The Man Who Still Will Be King

Originally posted 10/24/2013 08:25AM

He's ready to serve, he's been wanting to serve, but when will Britain's heir apparent serve?

That is the question that has dogged Prince Charles practically his entire 64 years. But now, with his mother, Queen Elizabeth, slowing down at 87 (yet with no intention of abdicating), and his son Prince William and daughter-in-law, Kate, keeping the spotlight on the monarchy blazing hot, Charles discusses the issue of succession and other personal matters in an exclusive new cover story for Time.

Of his unique role in the world, Charles tells the magazine's Catherine Mayer, "I've had this extraordinary feeling, for years and years, ever since I can remember really, of wanting to heal and make things better. … I feel more than anything else it's my duty to worry about everybody and their lives in this country, to try to find a way of improving things if I possibly can."

Titled "The Forgotten Prince," no doubt in light of William and Prince Harry's celebrity and even 3-month-old grandson Prince George's swiftly rising star, the article presents the royal as unsurprisingly staid, yet thoughtful, proactive and as delightfully proud of his sons and new grandson as any older relative would be.

Prince George's Christening: Who's Who & What's What

Originally posted 10/23/2013 08:45AM

A big day for little Prince George.

Lightly jiggled in his father's arms, the 3-month-old looked slightly perplexed at the attention as his parents, Prince William and Kate, greeted clergy at the doors of the baby's special christening service.

Led by the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, the 35-minute, private ceremony started at 3 p.m. London time (10 a.m. ET) at the Chapel Royal in St. James's Palace.

Shortly after her arrival with Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth spoke with William and Kate, with smiles all around. Kate – in an Alexander McQueen outfit and nude-and-ivory Jane Taylor hat – greeted George's great-grandfather with a kiss on both cheeks and a small curtsy.

As if to underscore the continuity of the monarchy, there, too, at the chapel door were Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

Kate & Will in Bucklebury: What's Next for the Prince of Cambridge

Originally posted 07/24/2013 06:45PM

After a busy Wednesday that included a visit from his paternal great-grandmother, the Queen, and a road trip to the Bucklebury home of his maternal grandparents, the Middletons, William and Kate's new arrival can now focus on his next official duty: becoming the center of attention for his parents.

"There'll be a little bit of time when they get to know the baby. A little bit of downtime," an aide tells PEOPLE.

But the new mom and dad aren't facing their new roles alone – Pippa Middleton and boyfriend Nico Jackson have already been to Kensington Palace to help take care of the newborn and help the Duke and Duchess settle in, the aide adds.
