The Spoils of Babylon, premiering Thursday on IFC (10 p.m. ET/PT) and produced by Funny or Die, is more correctly titled – with a significant loss of magnificent pretentiousness – Eric Jonrosh's The Spoils of Babylon.
It also bills itself as an “epic television event,” but in truth boils down to a mere six half-hour episodes.
And although Babylon boasts a cast that starts somewhere in the A-list (Tobey Maguire, Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell), it stoops a little to accommodate a few highly respectable character actors (Tim Robbins, Michael Sheen). Then it improbably winds down to Haley Joel Osment, the former child star of The Sixth Sense, and Val Kilmer.

Hollywood's finest and most familiar faces – from Jessica Chastain to Jessica Biel – have flocked to the South of France for the Cannes Film Festival. (Did we mention Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio and Emma Watson, too?)
But the true stars of the festival have yet to show up.
Meet the ginger-colored cats who steal scenes from Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan and Justin Timberlake in the Coen brothers' latest film, Inside Llewyn Davis. (Fun fact: It took six felines to fill the role of the cat who follows Isaac around 1961 New York in the film.)

Under unseasonably cloudy skies and dodging a few raindrops, Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire kicked off the 66th Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday just hours before walking the red carpet for their blockbuster film The Great Gatsby, which opened the star-studded 12-day extravaganza of movies and parties on the French Riviera.
"Every time I go to Cannes it feels like I'm entering the helicopter scene in La Dolce Vita; it's an insane experience," said DiCaprio, who posed for photos on the fabled Croisette next to his Gatsby costars.
Emma Watson, who stars in Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring, premiering Thursday, was spotted among the early celebrity arrivals at Nice International Airport on Tuesday – along with Paris Hilton, Cannes jury member Nicole Kidman and British singer Florence Welch.
