Shia LaBeouf: What I Love About Carey Mulligan
Originally posted 03/16/2010 06:00PM
Shia LaBeouf isn't usually shy about discussing his personal life. But when it comes to his Oscar-nominated girlfriend, Carey Mulligan, he's uncharacteristically tight-lipped.
"I never really had anything in my life that was off-limits. But with this, just out of respect, I just don't want to [expletive] around," the actor, 23, tells GQ in its April issue.
He will offer this much about his Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps costar, also 23: "She's an unbelievably thought-provoking actress, the most talented actress I've ever met in my life, by leaps and bounds. Neither one of us are fame whores. It works out. It's not like we're the premiere couple; we're not the red-carpet king and queen."

Originally posted 03/07/2010 11:45PM
After Neil Patrick Harris brought down the house with a musical number heralding the arrival of this year's Academy Awards co-hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin, the guys wasted no time cracking up the audience – and picking on the night's biggest names.
Nobody was safe – not Meryl Streep, Zac Efron nor Matt Damon – from Baldwin and Martin's repartee. Here are some of the duo's best lines:
"[Best Actress nominee] Gabourey [Sidibe] and I have something in common: In our first movies we were both born a poor black child." – Steve Martin, joking about his beloved comedy The Jerk
"She was so pleased to be nominated with him, she sent him a beautiful gift basket with a timer." – Steve Martin, on Best Director winner Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker), who was nominated against her ex-husband, James Cameron (Avatar)

Christoph Waltz, Up Early Oscar Winners
Originally posted 03/07/2010 09:00PM
Music and laugher kicked off the 2010 Academy Awards from Hollywood's Kodak Theatre. In a non-traditional first, the show actually opened with the 10 Best Actor and Actress nominees introduced alphabetically before escorts rose from the audience and guided them to their seats.
Then the fun began.
Neil Patrick Harris, who hosted the Tonys and Emmys last year, delivered the show's opening musical number, "No One Wants to Do It Alone," essentially setting the stage for hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin – who spent their opening dialogue poking fun at the top nominees who had just been seated.
"There's that damn Helen Mirren," said Martin – prompting Baldwin to say, "Steve, that's Dame Helen Mirren."

Which Oscar Virgin Are You Rooting For?
Originally posted 03/07/2010 09:00AM
There will be a whole lot of green on the red carpet Sunday night. No, the procession into the 2010 Academy Awards isn't getting a makeover. This year's pool of nominees are just a fresh-faced bunch of newcomers!
The first-time Oscar nominees are as varied as their roles. From Christoph Waltz, who is the favorite among best supporting actor contenders for his role as an evil Nazi colonel in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds, to Mo'Nique, who is the front runner in the best supporting actress category for playing an abusive mother in Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire.
Her competition includes film alum Maggie Gyllenhaal for Crazy Heart and big-screen newbie Anna Kendrick for Up in the Air. The best actress race also has some young blood: An Education's Carey Mulligan and Precious's Gabourey Sidibe, who was an unknown receptionist before landing this, her first, role.
The Academy's votes will be revealed Sunday night. But now it's your turn:

Brits Celebrate the BAFTAs
Originally posted 02/21/2010 07:45PM
It was a night to remember for Twi-hards and royal fans at the Orange British Academy Awards in London, as Prince William was announced BAFTA's new President and Kristen Stewart won the "Orange Rising Star" award with Robert Pattinson in the audience.
While Twilight's hot couple arrived separately on the red carpet, both to loud cheers, it was Prince William signing autographs that caused the biggest frenzy on the way in to the star-studded ceremony at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.
The young royal attended solo – minus girlfriend Kate Middleton – opened the ceremony with a heartfelt speech on his new BAFTA appointment. "This is such a privilege for me," he said adding, "I have to say, there is nothing better than going to see a really good film so this is a great personal thrill for me."
Prince William follows in the footsteps of his grandfather in accepting the high-profile arts role.
