Maksim Chmerkovskiy has a reputation for speaking his mind on Dancing with the Stars. But Monday night's verbal attack on judge Len Goodman shocked even Derek Hough.

"I was personally extremely surprised," Hough, 26, told PEOPLE backstage shortly after the debacle that went down when Goodman, 67, told Chmerkovskiy, 31, and partner Hope Solo – who received a total score of 20 – that they performed their "worst dance of the season."

"I feel like the judges have been incredibly generous," Hough said. "But we're all very emotional."

Kendra Wilkinson: Carrie Ann Inaba 'Belittled and Embarrassed' Me

Originally posted 04/17/2011 08:00AM

Elegance is in the eyes of the beholder according to Kendra Wilkinson, not in the eyes of Carrie Ann Inaba.

"We have our own definition," Wilkinson told reporters following the Dancing with the Stars elimination on Tuesday, after Inaba said she seemed to be "afraid of elegance" during her performance the night before. "Elegance is what [my husband] Hank [Baskett] sees, not what Carrie Ann sees. That's what I care about."

The reality star admits that right after Inaba's comment, she felt "like giving up."

"Another woman telling me about elegance eats away at my ego," she said. "I'm a huge Carrie Ann fan, and she's [usually] so sweet, but that one comment – I felt belittled at that moment and embarrassed."

She's the unflappable judge on Dancing with the Stars. But Carrie Ann Inaba was rendered speechless when her boyfriend of two years, accountant Jesse Sloan, surprised her and proposed last week on Live! With Regis and Kelly.

"I'm still in shock," Inaba, 43, told PEOPLE before Monday's episode of Dancing.

As reality sinks in, the Dancing judge will focus on the business of wedding planning. "I'd like to get married sooner rather than later," she says. "He's the right person, and I just have this feeling of let's just keep moving forward."

And although no date has been set, Inaba knows for sure that the wedding will include "dancing, singing and nachos."

Carrie Ann Inaba Engaged

Talk about a surprise engagement.

Carrie Ann Inaba thought all she had to do was sub for vacationing Kelly Ripa on Thursday's Live with Regis and Kelly to discuss Dancing with the Stars.

But there was more: Inaba's boyfriend of about two years, Jesse Sloan, showed up – bearing a diamond sparkler and a wedding proposal.

The timing couldn't have been better. At the top of the show, Inaba had told Regis Philbin and the audience that the stories about her being engaged simply weren't true, though she had mentioned in an interview that she was anticipating a summer wedding.

Carrie Ann Inaba: Bristol Palin 'Could Be in Dancing Finals – Wow!'

Originally posted 11/11/2010 01:40PM

It's no secret that Bristol Palin isn't the best dancer.

Week after week, Palin, 20, has landed at the bottom of the Dancing with the Stars leader board. And, week after week, she is saved from elimination.

So if it's not her moves that keep her in the competition, what is the secret ingredient to Palin's performances that has America voting for her?

"Bristol Palin is somebody that I think most of Middle America and regular people can relate to," Dancing judge Carrie Ann Inaba tells PEOPLE. "A lot of people come up to me and say, 'I want to be on Dancing with the Stars. Why don't they have a regular-people version?' And I feel like that's what Bristol Palin is. She's a regular girl with normal problems and normal issues, and I think a lot of people look at her and see themselves."

Carrie Ann Inaba Predicts a 'Love Match' Between The Situation and Karina

Originally posted 09/20/2010 03:00PM

Chemistry is key on the ballroom parquet and it looks like one Dancing with the Stars team already has it – even before stepping onto the floor.

"Do I smell a love match?" judge Carrie Ann Inaba says in a video interview about this season 11's Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and his pro partner Karina Smirnoff.

"Maybe," she says coyly, "but that's not their dancing so I won't be judging on that."

Inaba says fans should expect the unexpected when the show kicks off on Monday because of some "mix-ups" with the pairings.
