Julia Roberts Drops the F-Bomb on Tom Hanks
Originally posted 04/28/2009 10:00AM
The night was billed as a salute to Tom Hanks, but it was Julia Roberts who stole the show.
"It's late, and I'm paying my babysitter overtime, and I have to pee," a harried Roberts announced at Monday's 36th annual Film Society of Lincoln Center Gala Tribute, where the Philadelphia and Forrest Gump double Oscar winner was presented the new Chaplin Award. Keeping her tribute as brief as possible, Roberts told Hanks, "So, everybody f---ing likes you."
Assessing his 2004 movie The Terminal, in which he played an Eastern European trapped in Immigration at J.F.K., Roberts said, "That movie about you and the airport and the accent was a pass for me. Airport? Were you just an immigrant lost? I didn't know. I love you, but I didn’t know … and I'm wearing the same f---ing dress tonight as your publicist."

Salma Hayek's Wedding Reception an All-Star Song Fest
Originally posted 04/27/2009 06:55AM
Salma Hayek's Saturday wedding to French billionaire François-Henri at Venice's Teatro La Fenice opera house was a celebration worthy of its famous venue.
The music kicked in during the ceremony, when the 150 guests – among them Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Ed Norton, Woody Harrelson, Charlize Theron, Stella McCartney and Ashley Judd – serenaded the couple with a Hawaiian-style version of the sentimental classic from The Wizard of Oz, "Over the Rainbow."
Later at the elegant reception, Hayek, Theron and Harrelson joined Bono and Damien Rice on stage for a rendition of something bouncy: "Stand By Me."

Charlize Theron was named a United Nations messenger of peace during a ceremony on Friday, Reuters reports.
Theron, 33, will focus on ending violence against women – an issue that is personally resonant with the actress. At age 15, her mother fatally shot her father, an alcoholic, who drunkenly threatened her family.
"You have used your voice, compassion and special relationship with the public to create a better world," U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon told the Hancock star at the ceremony.
The South African-born actress is one of 10 celebrities serving in this role.

Nicole Kidman & Charlize Theron to Play Man & Wife
Originally posted 11/10/2008 10:05AM
The Hours Oscar winner Nicole Kidman and Monster Oscar winner Charlize Theron are about to star in a movie together – as a married couple.
Kidman will star in and produce The Danish Girl, based on a 2000 best-selling novel about real-life Danish artists – and husband and wife – Einar and Greta Wegener, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
In the 1920s, the male Einar (to be played by Kidman) posed as a woman for his painter wife Greta (to be played by Theron).
The finished portraits became all the rage in Copenhagen, which prompted Greta to encourage Einar to dress as a woman.

Charlize Theron Settles $20 Million Lawsuit
Originally posted 11/04/2008 10:30AM
Charlize Theron has settled the $20 million breach of contract lawsuit against her, according to papers filed in Manhattan Federal Court Monday.
The suit was filed last year, when Swiss watchmaker Raymond Weil claimed that Theron had worn a Christian Dior watch during a press event in 2006, despite being paid "substantial funds" to exclusively wear Raymond Weil timepieces during the time in question.
While the details were not released, the papers do say that the suit will be discontinued as long as the terms of the settlement are completed within 30 days.

$20 Mil Lawsuit Against Charlize Theron to Proceed
Originally posted 10/09/2008 08:45AM
Despite her legal team's request to have the case dismissed, Charlize Theron is heading to Federal Court for the Southern District of New York later this month for a breach-of-contract lawsuit against her by Swiss watchmaker Raymond Weil.
The 2004 Monster Oscar winner, 33, was paid "substantial funds" – said to be $20 million – to star as the "new face" of Weil in the company's ad campaign, and she was to wear its timepieces exclusively from October 2005 to December 2006, according to the original court papers.
Weil's suit against its former brand ambassador, however, claims that simultaneously to her contract with them, Theron was also the face of a Dior perfume, and "was actually photographed wearing a watch from the Christian Dior line" at a press event in Austin, Texas, on March 14, 2006.

Charlize Theron says it was great to be directed by boyfriend Stuart Townsend in their new film Battle in Seattle – except when it wasn't.
"No matter what I say, people think I am biased because I sleep with him," Theron joked with reporters in New York City Sept. 17. "It was great. He loved directing and I've never seen him so happy – which hurts my feelings as his girlfriend!"
Townsend, 35, Theron's boyfriend of seven years, makes his writing and directorial debut with the drama about the 1999 World Trade Organization meeting in Seattle and protesters who brought the city's streets to a standstill.

How do you say "star-struck" in Italian?
George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Anne Hathaway and Charlize Theron are among the celebrities expected on the red carpet at this year's Venice Film Festival.
The 65th annual festival opens August 27 with the out-of-competition premiere of Joel and Ethan Coen's Burn After Reading, starring Coen favorite Clooney and his pal Pitt. (The pair also appeared at last year's festival, with Clooney memorably debuting then-girlfriend Sarah Larson.)
Next month's festival is expected to be Pitt's first major public event since the birth of his twins with Angelina Jolie.
