Cher is having a pronoun problem when it comes to her daughter-turned-son Chaz Bono.
"She's a very smart girl – boy!" the singer tells Vanity Fair in its December issue. "This is where I get into trouble. … I still don't remember to call her 'him.' "
Chaz, 41 – born Chastity Bono – underwent gender reassignment last year, a process he said made him "a happy guy." But Cher admits she still can't quite wrap her mind around the idea of suddenly becoming a man.

Of all the many issues that he had to deal with during his sex change, having to do it in the public eye was among the hardest, Chaz Bono says on Good Morning America.
"I think probably the first thing that was an incredible hurdle was that I wasn't going to be able to do this privately like most people, and that took a really long time to get over," he says.
But the longtime gay-rights activist says that it doesn't change his feelings about being a spokesman for the movement.

He may already be 40, but Chaz Bono has finally begun to experience that rite of passage for young guys everywhere: the first shave.
"I shave about once a week now," Bono, 40, tells Entertainment Tonight in an interview to air Thursday and Friday. "It kind of started to come in just like peach fuzz. I always wanted to shave. It is a very natural process. For my birthday I got a lot of shaving stuff.”
Chaz, the son of singer Cher and the late Sonny Bono, began the process of a sex change in March. Formerly known as Chastity, he has now had his breasts removed and is on a permanent regimen of hormones, he says.

Political and social activist Chastity Bono – the only child of entertainers Cher and the late Sonny Bono – began undergoing a sex change shortly after her 40th birthday on March 4.
"Cher is very supportive and has known about Chastity wanting to do this for a very long time," a source tells PEOPLE. "This will be a long process but it's something Chastity has wanted to do for many years."
Bono's spokesman, Howard Bragman, told TMZ, which first reported the story, "Yes, it's true – Chaz, after many years of consideration, has made the courageous decision to honor his true identity.
"He is proud of his decision and grateful for the support and respect that has already been shown by his loved ones. It is Chaz's hope that his choice to transition will open the hearts and minds of the public regarding this issue, just as his 'coming out' did nearly 20 years ago."
