In the midst of planning an interfaith, same-sex wedding, country singer Chely Wright says she's all about tradition, right down to the gown.
"It will definitely be a wedding dress," she says. But there's a complicating factor in that fiancée Lauren Blitzer will also be wearing white.
"When two women get married, you want the dresses to coordinate, so we've been showing pictures to each other," Wright, 40, told PEOPLE after a Nashville Film Festival screening of Wish Me Away, an autobiographical film about her decision last year to come out.
One tradition they'll do without? "We're not wearing veils – we both like our hair too much!" she says.

When she hit rock bottom, Chely Wright came close to ending the life that had kept a big secret for so long.
The country-music singer, 39, who came out this week, says at one point she picked up a gun and was close to pulling the trigger – trapped as a closeted lesbian and afraid of losing everything in a conservative industry that might not accept who she really was.
"I had a 9-millimeter gun in my mouth," Wright said on Wednesday's Today show. "I was living a secret life, and I was very much a country-music celebrity … I gave up hope, and I was ready to take my own life."

Country Music Artist Chely Wright Comes Out
Originally posted 05/03/2010 09:00AM
Country singer Chely Wright's reasoning was sound. "There had never, ever been a country music artist who had acknowledged his or her homosexuality," she tells PEOPLE. "I wasn't going to be the first."
But now Wright is changing her tune. "Nothing in my life has been more magical than the moment I decided to come out," she says.
Wright, 39, recalls of her youth in the South: "I don't have a memory in my life that doesn't include the dream of making music." But during her childhood and rapid ascent to fame in the county world, she also experienced a community in which homosexuality was shunned. "I hid everything for my music," says Wright.
