When you're the child of one of the most famous celebrities in the world, it's glaringly obvious when your mother – in Chaz Bono's case, Cher – is not present when you are hoofing your heart out on Dancing with the Stars.
However, that's all about to change Monday night, Bono tells PEOPLE.
Last week, “she texted me right before Monday's show and said, 'I wanted people to be able to feel your presence and not take away from that and I think you’ve made your presence known now,' " Bono, 42, says.
"So I texted her back and I said, 'Okay, so if I make it through this week that means you'll come to Monday's show?' And she said, 'Yes.' "

Judging from recent interviews and Tweets, it is clear that Cher has nothing but love and support for her transgender son Chaz Bono.
But that doesn't necessarily mean the iconic entertainer, 65, always believes Bono is capable of everything he sets out to do.
Following an upbeat performance on Monday night's Dancing with the Stars that surprised judges, Bono, 42, admitted to PEOPLE he was "interested to hear what [Cher] thought because she thought I was not going to be able to do this."

Don't be afraid of Chaz Bono. Just be afraid of him doing the quickstep.
That's Cher's tongue-in-cheek advice to America about her son, who's preparing to compete on Dancing with the Stars beginning next Monday.
"I got to tell you something. You doing this dance is about as scary as you making the 'change,' " Cher jokes in a surprise phone call to her son on Wednesday's Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Performing in elaborate costumes runs in the family for Chaz Bono.
So what does his mom, Cher, think of his upcoming turn on Dancing with the Stars?
"She really thought it was great that I was doing it and wanted to know how I was feeling about it, if I was nervous and how it was going," Bono told Ryan Seacrest Wednesday on his radio show, On Air with Ryan Seacrest.
Not that Cher had any advance warning. Bono said he had to keep the secret until last weekend because, as he tells it, "ABC put the fear of God into me."

Cher is more supportive than ever to her son, Chaz, who legally changed his gender and name last year.
The iconic singer held a small screening of the upcoming documentary Becoming Chaz at her Malibu home over the weekend. "Cher and 10 of her and Chaz's friends stood up and cheered when it was over," a friend of Cher's tells PEOPLE.
The friend says Cher told her during the screening, "I admire my son Chaz's courage for sharing his personal journey. Most important to me is that he is very happy. That's what I care about the most. He has my love and support."
Chaz, who was born Chastity Bono to the famed singing duo, Sonny and Cher, started his female-to-male sex change March 2009, shortly after his 40th birthday. The documentary tells the story of his transformation from a woman to a man. It is scheduled to air on Oprah's OWN Network next week.
