It was a night of exciting performances, positive reviews from the judges and a pair of big twists for the eight remaining couples on Dancing with the Stars Monday night.

First, the pairs had to perform in an improvisational switch-up challenge, which required them to show off their ability to transition seamlessly while dancing to music that suddenly changed.

Then, at elimination time, there was an even bigger twist that one no one – not even producers – had seen coming.

These couples have dancing fever!

Jack Osbourne and wife Lisa hit up Hooray Henry's in West Hollywood Monday night after the season premiere of Dancing With the Stars for a fun night on the town.

Inside the venue, the two "were in good spirits," an onlooker told PEOPLE. Clad in a flannel shirt, Osbourne, 27, and his wife, 26, held court all night at a table near the entrance but refrained from drinking.

While Lisa hung out with her husband's pro partner (and the night's host) Cheryl Burke for a bit, the couple also "had a little bit of lovey-dovey time whispering in each other's ears and sharing laughs" later in the night, adds the source.

Kelly Monaco, Karina Smirnoff and Kym Johnson were on hand for the celebration at Mixology 101 in Los Angeles, where they presented the birthday girl with a towering red velvet cake.

"Cheryl is one of my best friends," Johnson told PEOPLE. "I loved being at Mixology to help her celebrate alongside these gorgeous ladies!"

Following harsh criticism from judge Len Goodman and spending consecutive weeks at the bottom of the leader board, D.L. Hughley finally said goodbye to the ballroom on Tuesday night's Dancing with the Stars.

"I'm sad," the comedian, 50, told PEOPLE backstage after he and partner, Cheryl Burke, 28, were eliminated. "[My fans kept me] on life support. I'm going to continue dancing, but no one will care. I'm not dancing for scores. Now that I'm not intimidated anymore, I'm going to dance."

When Hughley agreed to be on the show, he hadn't expected the judges to be so critical.

Dancing with the Stars: Andy Dick Stays Put, D.L. Hughley Goes Home

On Monday's Dancing with the Stars, frontrunner Zendaya earned the first 10s of the season and Karina Smirnoff performed with ex-fiancé Maksim Chmerkovskiy for the first time since their split.

But for Andy Dick and D.L. Hughley the night was a repeat of hearing harsh critiques from the judges.

Dick made a statement with a Zoro-themed entrance during his paso doble with partner Sharna Burgess, but the rest of his dance was panned. Hughley, too, failed to impress the panel with his and Cheryl Burke's tango. Both couples finished the night at the bottom of the leader board with 18 points.

At the end of Tuesday's elimination, Andy and Sharna were declared safe but D.L. and Cheryl were in jeopardy, along with soap star Ingo Rademacher and Kym Johnson and boxer Victor Ortiz and Lindsay Arnold.

After opening the show with those somber words of support for those affected by the tragedy in Boston, Dancing's hosts, judges, celebrities and professional dancers went ahead with the performance show, which featured Len Goodman's side-by-side challenge.

They remaining couples had to perform routines simultaneously with another pair of professionals – a tough task for all the dancers. But one pair managed to pull off the first 10s of season 16.

Cheryl Burke is a two-time Dancing with the Stars champion, winning the coveted mirror-ball trophy with Drew Lachey and Emmitt Smith. The 15-season pro will blog for PEOPLE.com while competing on season 16 with her partner, D.L. Hughley.

I was surprised Lisa Vanderpump left last week because I thought people would be like, "She was really sick!" Normally when that happens on the show, people really want to keep you on, but I think that obviously this show is so tough and no one really knows what they're getting into.

It's seven days a week and it really takes a toll on your body. It's tough shooting doing this show and shooting the Housewives show at the same time. Even for D.L., he's on the road and he's doing his stand-up show somewhere new every weekend. It's tough doing two jobs at one time.
