Kellie Pickler Heats Up the Competition on Dancing with the Stars
Originally posted 03/25/2013 10:30PM
It's only the second week of competition but Monday's episode of Dancing with the Stars was tense and emotional. That's because season 16's 12 celebrities are just a day away from the first elimination.
But Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough, the last couple to perform Monday, pulled out all the stops for their contemporary jazz routine, which earned 26 points.
"You are a dancer!" judge Carrie Ann Inaba said. "That was friggin' amazing!"
"Last week was a spark," Len Goodman added. "This week was a fire."

Cheryl Burke Blogs: Dancing's Judges Were 'Too Harsh' on D.L. Hughley

Cheryl Burke is a two-time Dancing with the Stars champion, winning the coveted mirror-ball trophy with Drew Lachey and Emmitt Smith. The 15-season pro will blog for PEOPLE.com while competing on season 16 with her partner, D.L. Hughley.
Being at the bottom of the leaderboard last week was a hard hit for the both of us – especially for my partner D.L. Hughley – but that is just fuel for us to work harder this week!
I thought the fours we got from the judges for our cha cha were a little too harsh. I felt like the judges were a little mean to D.L. and didn't really give him constructive criticism to come back this second week and improve.

Cheryl Burke Blogs: D.L. Hughley Needs to 'Loosen Up' for Dancing with the Stars

My partner D.L. Hughley is still on his comedy tour and performing every weekend. He is still working at his job, as well as doing Dancing with the Stars, so it has been a little bit challenging to get a lot of rehearsal time before Monday's season 16 premiere.
But it's always a struggle in the beginning. D.L. has more room for improvement, but he's learned his routine. We had a big breakthrough when we were actually able to get through the whole routine to music. He just needs to loosen up a little and have a good time. At the end of the day, even if he's not going to be the best technical dancer, at least he has personality and can show people that he's having fun.

Country week on Dancing with the Stars has featured more emotions than, well, a country song.

Dancing with the Stars: Who Got the Love on Country Night?

With performances by Little Big Town and Big & Rich, not to mention yards of denim and scores of cowboy hats, everybody was keeping it country on Dancing with the Stars on Monday night.
There was even a large fake cow on stage with a mirror ball hanging from its neck.
And for two couples, the range really did feel like home, with the judges handing out perfect scores twice during an emotional evening that left many competitors – and one judge – in tears.

Gilles Marini & Shawn Johnson Earn Perfect 10s on Dancing with the Stars
Originally posted 10/15/2012 10:10PM
With last week's double-elimination behind them, the remaining nine couples on Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars were forced to perform a dance selected for them by one of their competitors.
And they had a famous face on board to assess them this week.
Paula Abdul joined the judges panel alongside Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba for the night. Naturally, she brought her characteristic good cheer to the ABC show – and she notably awarded one of the season's first perfect 10s to Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd for their Bollywood-themed routine.
The couple also received 10s from Bruno and Carrie Ann, who told them, "Aladdin has nothing on you, Gilles Marini." Only Len was a holdout, though he gave the pair an impressive 9.5.
