Cheyenne Jackson: Losing Zora 'Was the Hardest Thing'

When Cheyenne Jackson's dog suddenly stopped eating, he didn't know that a few days later, he'd be saying goodbye to her for good.

The actor's Rottweiler mix Zora (named after author Zora Neale Hurston) had been Jackson's constant companion since he adopted her from the ASPCA in 2003.

"She was everything to us," the 30 Rock star, 37, tells PEOPLE. "She was New York to us. She was in every dressing room I ever had, she was kind of the supermodel of the dog park, she was really beautiful. She was everything."

Cheyenne Jackson's Dog Dies

She was a daughter, a girlfriend, a lady dog and a little slice of heaven, and now, Cheyenne Jackson must learn to live without her. The actor's 9-year-old Rottweiler mix, Zora, has died.

Cheyenne Jackson Gets Married

Cheyenne Jackson married longtime partner Monte Lapka in the Hamptons on Saturday.

"It's official, after 11 years together ... Married the best man I've ever known," the actor (Curb Your Enthusiasm, 30 Rock), 36, Tweeted along with a shot of themselves on the beach.

His Tweet also reference their dog Zora, who Jackson called their daughter when describing his "dream wedding" to NBC New York last fall: "Something small ... just close friends and good music. Our dog would be there. Our dog, our daughter, Zora. ... Pretty boring, but something just nice and on the beach."

Looks like dreams do come true!
