The news that Chord Overstreet will not be returning for season 3 of Glee has flooded the halls of the Internet like only high school gossip can.
However Overstreet, 22, who plays transfer student Sam Evans on the hit show, may occasionally resurface as a guest star, a source tells TV Line – good news for fans, who will otherwise be left hanging by his character's storylines.
Loose ends include the Evans family's homelessness – will they get back on their feet and move out of the hotel? – and Sam's blooming romance with Mercedes, merely hinted at during the season 2 finale.

Chord Overstreet Is Leaving Glee

Come fall, not everyone will be making their way back to William McKinley High School.
Chord Overstreet, who joined Glee last season as recurring guest star and transfer student Sam Evans, will not be a series regular for season three, a rep for Fox confirms to PEOPLE.
"Well its been a good yr too bad its over," the actor, 22, Tweeted Friday, seemingly alluding to his diminished role on the show. "Time for summer and starting fresh."
