Opposites may attract, but that's not the case for Gwyneth Paltrow and hubby Chris Martin.
Although they have separate careers – she is an Oscar-winning actress, turning 40 on Sept. 27, and he is the Grammy-winning Coldplay frontman, 35 – their common interests outside of work keep their bond strong, Paltrow tells her close pal, designer Diane von Furstenberg, in InStyle's October cover story.
"We laugh a lot, and at the same jokes," says Paltrow. "We like the same music and we like to do the same things."
But having so much in common can also have its drawbacks.

Rihanna's birthday may not be until next week, but the singer celebrated a few days early with a Caribbean-themed party at the Hearst Mansion in Beverly Hills Monday night.
About 100 of Rihanna's friends and family members came out to toast the star, who turns 24 on Feb. 20. The guests – including Bruno Mars, Coldplay's Chris Martin, and her BFF Katy Perry – enjoyed a Caribbean-style dinner and Sprinkles cupcakes decorated with Barbadian flags. In addition to a deejay, whose music pumped through both floors of the house, the party featured a brass drum player, who played Caribbean beats, as well as a photobooth complete with dress-up clothes that was set up for guests to enjoy.
The singer is no stranger to lavish birthday parties, and appeared to thoroughly enjoy herself. "Rihanna was dancing all night and had an amazing time celebrating with her friends," according to one attendee.

They may seem an unlikely pair, but Chris Martin and Jay-Z are closer than you may think.
"We're from very different backgrounds. But we love the same stuff everyone else loves," Martin, 34, tells online music magazine Pitchfork.
"I love his music, and he's a super cool guy, and he's genuine. I respect his decisions, and we have the same feelings about trying to be true in your art. It just happens that one of us is a nerd and the other is the coolest multi-entrepreneur on the planet."
Martin – whose latest album with Coldplay, Mylo Xyloto, has been getting rave reviews – may not be giving himself enough credit.

On their fifth album, Mylo Xyloto, Coldplay busts a move, discovering in their second decade that they can groove.
Hey, it wasn’t enough for them to rule arenas, they want to rule dance floors too!
Although they pumped driving rhythms into 2005's under-appreciated X&Y, there's a new swagger to the beats on Mylo Xyloto.
The thumping drums that end "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall" find Will Champion flexing more muscle, while the funky bass on "Major Minus" might make you think that Flea has replaced Guy Berryman.

Between her stint on Glee and her performance at the 2011 Grammys – not to mention impressive appearances at the CMA Awards and on Saturday Night Live – Gwyneth Paltrow seems to know how to handle her budding musical career.
But it's no thanks to her husband, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, she says. Why? Because she never asked him for help.
"[He's] a musical genius," she tells Elle magazine in its September issue. "It's like living with Picasso and being like, 'Should I make a little something-something?' "

"Who do I have to bang to get an advance copy of the new @coldplay album? I mean, really."

Gwyneth Paltrow had a blissful time during daughter Apple's first few months of life in summer 2004. Two years later, when son Moses was born, things couldn't have been more different. The actress found herself living a nightmare.
"I felt like a zombie. I couldn't access my heart. I couldn't access my emotions. I couldn't connect," Paltrow, now 38, says in the February issue of Good Housekeeping.
"It was terrible, it was the exact opposite of what had happened when Apple was born. With her, I was on cloud nine. I couldn't believe it wasn't the same. I just thought it meant I was a terrible mother and a terrible person."
