Claire Danes, Kevin Bacon Celebrate HBO's Girls

Originally posted 04/05/2012 12:00PM

The stars headed up to the Top of the Standard to celebrate the upcoming premiere of Girls, HBO's racy new comedy about four twentysomething women finding their way in New York City. And it was a glamorous cocktail party that was a far cry from the sometimes challenging Brooklyn living depicted on the witty new show.

With plates of charcuterie and cheese on reserved tables, guests such as Claire Danes, Chloe Sevigny, Gabourey Sidibe, former Real Housewives of N.Y.C. star Kelly Bensimon and the show's producer Judd Apatow fanned out around the circular room, mingling in the intimate space and taking in the panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline.

Danes shared a moment with the show's stars Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet while Lena Dunham, the new show's writer, director and lead actress, hung out at her private table, chatting with Apatow and greeting well-wishers such as John Cameron Mitchell with a friendly handshake. At one point, Dunham headed to Le Bain, just across the hall from the main party space, where she chatted with Boardwalk Empire's Steve Buscemi, who was enjoying a plate of food from the nearby buffet.

Golden Globes: The Artist, Meryl Streep & Claire Danes Win Big

Originally posted 01/15/2012 11:20PM

Despite an off-color remark or two from host Ricky Gervais, Sunday's 69th annual Golden Globe Awards proved to be something unexpected – family friendly.

Named best actress for the TV drama Homeland, Claire Danes said that when she won her first Globe, for 1994's My So-Called Life, she was only 15 – and was so overwhelmed that she forgot to thank her parents.

She made up for that oversight on Sunday, and pointed out her mother, Carla, sitting in the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Danes also thanked her husband, Hugh Dancy, "who keeps me sane and happy."

Throughout the evening, many winners took time to remember members of their families. The Artist's best comedy actor, Jean Dujardin, thanked "my beautiful and talented wife." (The movie was also named best picture comedy or musical.)

Why Didn't President Obama's Favorite Show Get a SAG Nomination? | Claire Danes, Damien Lewis

Homeland Not Nominated for SAG Awards

What is this, a conspiracy?

Showtime's spy thriller Homeland, which I picked as my No. 1 show for 2011 in PEOPLE's year-end issue (and which is a pretty safe bet to dominate top-10 lists elsewhere), is homeless – at least when it comes to the Screen Actors Guild Award nominations, announced Wednesday. (President Barack Obama, in the same issue of PEOPLE, reveals that the show is a favorite of his, as well. Just saying ...)

The show, renewed for a second season, wouldn't work if it weren't for the tense gamesmanship and sexual chemistry of Claire Danes, as a CIA analyst, and Damian Lewis, as a former POW whose life intersects suspiciously with a circle of Middle East terrorists. And yet neither is up for the award.

When you star in a political drama on television, it can be challenging keeping things light behind the scenes. But Homeland stars Claire Danes and Morena Baccarin have found something adorable they can chitchat about on the set of their intense thriller: dogs.

"She has a dog that's kind of similar in scale to mine," Danes tells PEOPLE. "And so we kind of have a little dog commune and that's fun."

Why Claire Danes Flies Coach

Her work is exceptional. Her ride is not.

Hours after winning a Screen Actors Guild award for best actress in a TV movie in Los Angeles on Sunday, Claire Danes was commuting back to work in New York – in decidedly unglamorous fashion.

"I'm flying tonight on coach," Danes, 31, told Extra backstage at the SAG show. "I know, I know, I feel like I'm bragging now at this point. It's the only seat available, and I have to go back to work tomorrow morning."

Book clubs everywhere are abuzz, and it looks like the box office is next!

Now that the bestselling novel The Help is making its way to the big screen under Steven Spielberg and his DreamWorks studio, we're running through a short list of who could bring the novel's beloved characters to life.

"The casting process is going to be the most fun part about this," DreamWorks co-president of production Holly Bario told EW.com. "This is a total tour de force for women."

In case you haven't read it yet: The 2009 megaseller, written by first-time novelist Kathryn Stockett, chronicles the conflicted relationships between black housekeepers and their white employers in a pre-Civil-Rights-era Mississippi. Hundreds of thousands of readers have kept it on The New York Times Best Sellers list for more than 47 weeks – due in large part to Stockett's enchanting mix of female characters, from the coming-of-age heroine Miss Skeeter to the wise and thoughtful maid Aibileen.

Here's who we'd cast for the pivotal roles:

Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy have gotten married, a rep for both actors confirms to PEOPLE.

Danes, 30, and Dancy, 34, tied the knot in a quiet ceremony in France a few weeks ago, according a source who attended the wedding.

The pair met while filming the movie Evening in Newport, R.I., and revealed their engagement in February.

In April, Danes's pal Mamie Gummer, who appeared with the pair in Evening, said the bride-to-be was very "calm" about her upcoming nuptials.

Not even the stress of wedding planning can cause Claire Danes to lose her cool, a friend of the star tells PEOPLE.

"She's so calm and excited about it," Mamie Gummer says of the actress' upcoming nuptials to Hugh Dancy. "She is going to be the most beautiful bride."

Gummer costarred with Danes, 30, and Dancy, 33, in Evening, which was filmed in Newport, R.I., in 2007. She says it was privilege to watch the pair meet and fall in love as they bonded over games of Boggle and Scrabble.

"I was there when it was happening and it's something that I will never forget," Gummer tells PEOPLE at the Chanel and Tribeca Film Festival Artists' Dinner in New York on Thursday.
