Caillat released the lyric video for the single back in June, showing makeup-free selfies of herself and famous friends Miranda Lambert, Sheryl Crow, and Sara Bareilles. Caillat was inspired to write the song after venting to Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and two songwriters about the challenges she's faced in the industry. "[People in the business] wanted me to dress a little sexier and kind of change the artist that I was," Caillat told PEOPLE. "[Edmonds and songwriters told me] you don't have to try to be someone else, because people like who you are."

Colbie Caillat spends a lot of time on the road, so it's always a treat for her to come home. That's been especially true since she rescued a 3-month-old puppy named Maté.
The singer brought Maté along for her performance on Wednesday's episode of America's Got Talent, where she sang her new single, "Brighter Than the Sun." While Maté didn't get any airtime during the show, he hung out on stage during rehearsal, wearing a hoodie to stay warm on the air-conditioned set.
