American Idol runner-up Crystal Bowersox and her husband, musician Brian Walker, are calling it quits.
"After two and a half years, we have decided to end our marriage," the couple tells PEOPLE in an exclusive statement. "The friendship and love which brought us together remains strong, and we will continue to support each other in our careers and personal lives. We are hopeful that people will be respectful of our privacy as we face this emotional and challenging time for our family."

Former American Idol finalist Crystal Bowersox will officially be taking a walk after midnight – on Broadway.
Producers of the Patsy Cline musical Always... Patsy Cline said Tuesday that Bowersox, 25, will portray the legendary country singer in the title role of a summer production in New York. John Rando will direct.
Written in 1988 by Ted Swindley, Always... Patsy Cline is based on a true story about Cline's friendship with a fan from Houston who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in 1961 and continued a correspondence with Cline until her death in 1963 in a plane crash at age 30.

They had a whirlwind courtship and an engagement lasting only weeks, but Crystal Bowersox and Brian Walker were hardly strangers in love.
Longtime friends before things turned romantic in recent months, the American Idol runner-up was married to musician Walker in Chicago on Sunday, her rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.
"Our lives have never made more sense than they do right now,” Bowersox tells PEOPLE. “I can't believe how incredibly lucky we are to have found so much laughter, love, and light within each other. We're one happy WalkerSox family."

She had no problem when it came to the high notes during her American Idol tenure, but as runner-up Crystal Bowersox preps for her big day, she'll be the first to admit it: She knows nothing about life as a wife.
"I've never really in my life had a great representation of what a good marriage is," the singer, 25, tells PEOPLE. "My parents divorced, and a lot of people in my family are divorced, so I hope to give my son a great model of what a happy marriage is or relationship could be."
Bowersox announced her plans to tie the knot with musician Brian Walker last week, and it's the first marriage for the Ohio native, who memorably split with her then-boyfriend before the Idol finale.

Crystal Bowersox, the American Idol runner-up, is engaged to musician Brian Walker and they plan to tie the knot next month, her rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.
It's the first marriage for Bowersox, 25, who has a son, Tony, 1 ½, from a previous relationship. Bowersox is currently recording her debut album.
As her career takes off, her love life has also been on fast-forward.
Just last May, she famously broke up with her then-boyfriend hours before the final performance night. She said the split was mutual but that she drew on her raw emotions while singing a moving rendition of Patty Griffin's "Up to the Mountain."
