David Blaine Video Blogs About Trying to Break World Record on Oprah

Originally posted 04/28/2008 06:40PM

Magician David Blaine is taking to The Oprah Winfrey Show on Wednesday in hopes of breaking a major world record. Known for his risky illusions, this time, Blaine will try to his breath underwater for more than 16 minutes and 14 seconds – live on the show.

In preparation, Blaine has been training in the Cayman Islands – and he's recorded two video blogs in which he describes his preparation. In one clip, the magician shows details of his training regimen, including the nights he's slept in a special hypoxic tent, which is filled with lower than normal levels of oxygen.

Says Blaine: "I've been sleeping here for a month – and I was just in Cayman where I've been training on holding my breath. And I've been getting pretty good, so my times have been getting much better."

In another clip he details his training free diving in the ocean where he holds his breath – and encounters sea life.

EXITED: There was a stunning tribal sacrifice on Thursday night's edition of CBS's Survivor: Palau, with 39-year-old Las Vegas showgirl Janu Tornell putting down her torch just before the vote – claiming she had already gotten all she could have out of the island experience. Another factor was that Janu sensed that her tribe was going to vote out Stephenie LaGrossa, 25-year-old pharmaceutical sales rep from Philadelphia – who also had been the last standing Ulong member before joining the Koror fold. Janu admitted that Stephenie deserved to stay on. After the surprise announcement, Janu explained, "No one will ever be able to take away this most unforgettable experience. No one."
