If playing a flamboyant transgender punk rocker sounds out of character for Neil Patrick Harris, you've got company. The star himself admits his upcoming Broadway role in Hedwig and the Angry Inch pushes him outside of his comfort zone – but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
"Hedwig is bringing up a lot of super insecure things within me," the actor tells Out for its April cover story. "I have never thought drag was intoxicating, I've never had a fun drunken Halloween in drag, never been in heels, really." (Notable exception: he ably accepted the Hasty Pudding Man of the Year Award in drag in February, although he donned a more traditional tux while attending a gala for the group Monday night.)
"I've lived my whole life being attracted by masculinity – it’s why I like guys," he also tells the magazine. "I'm not a super effete person, and I have to turn into that, and in doing so it brings up a lot of homophobic insecurities within myself."

There's a lot more to Twilight than Edward and Bella.
Jackson Rathbone's gilded smirk and arched eyebrow was secretly the best part of the hit vampire series. I mean, have you heard him say "Possibly" in Breaking Dawn? It's great! Anyway, he ate yogurt on YouTube this week (no, really!), poked a little fun at the franchise and proved that yes, Virginia, emo vampires do have a sense of humor.
Plus: Neil Patrick Harris and fiancé David Burtka could not be any cuter with their kids, Pete Wentz got his Miley on (sort of) and more of the most important random things online.

The coming out process is a very personal one and no one should be pushed into it, says Neil Patrick Harris.
"I don't think doing it in an exploitative way makes sense. I just feel like that whole world is very personal," the actor, 40, said Monday on Huffpost Live. "Here's a good analogy – if you're going to jump into the pool and you're not sure how to swim, it's probably not so effective to just push someone into the pool ... It's probably not the best way."
As for his own journey, Harris, who came out to PEOPLE in 2006, says he didn't want to cover up his love for his now fiancé, David Burtka.

Neil Patrick Harris and his fiancé David Burtka haven't specifically told their twins about their entertainment careers.
That said, Harris, 40, who is hosting Sunday's Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, says their professional paths are pretty apparent because they've given their nearly 3-year-old little ones a very hands-on experience.
"I don't have any reason to tell them what we do for a living," the How I Met Your Mother funnyman told PEOPLE on Wednesday at an Emmy preview. "They've come to set. They know the crew. They got to come to the Tony rehearsals and watch the Cinderella dancers with all of their finest gownery and do their dancing, which was cool."

Neil Patrick Harris admits that it took a while for him to adjust to being a dad to twins Harper and Gideon.
"The first year with them was complicated," he says in an interview with USA Weekend. "They were crying a lot."
But as the toddlers approach their third birthday in October, it's a whole different ball game.

Colbie Smulders's wedding to Saturday Night Live funnyman Taran Killam on Saturday was a star studded – and family-friendly – affair.
Smulders's How I Met Your Mother castmates Neil Patrick Harris and Alyson Hannigan were on hand for the celebration – and so were their little kids.
"Spent the weekend with the family at one of the most fantastic weddings I've ever attended. Good times. So much love," Harris Tweeted on Sunday.
It was all about family for Smulders (who wore a Claire Pettibone gown) and Killam, who are parents to 3-year-old daughter Shaelyn.
