A judge has referred Lindsay Lohan's mother to a community service program, saying volunteering could help her alleged drunken-driving case.
Newsday reports the judge on Thursday also ordered Dina Lohan, 51, to get an independent treatment evaluation. He set her next court appearance for Jan. 7.
Lohan was arrested on Sept. 12 following a traffic stop on Long Island. Police say she was driving 77 mph in a 55 mph zone while intoxicated.

Her license suspended, Dina Lohan left a suburban New York courthouse in a chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce on Tuesday after entering a not guilty plea on speeding and drunken driving charges.
Lohan, 50, was surrounded by a media throng usually associated with her troubled actress daughter, Lindsay Lohan, as she left a Long Island courthouse following her arraignment. She was released without bail until her next court appearance on Oct. 23.
The only apparent family member accompanying Lohan to court was her mother, Ann Sullivan.
Judge Joy Watson released Lohan without bail but ordered her driver's license suspended, citing the severity of the alleged drunken driving charge.

Out of rehab and living relatively drama free in New York City, (well, except for Dina Lohan's DUI) the latest on Lindsay Lohan is decidedly wholesome: she's dating handsome Texan football star Matt Nordgren.
Lohan first met Nordgren, 30, a former University of Texas football star who played one season with the Philadelphia Eagles, and then starred on the 2011 Bravo reality show Most Eligible Dallas, seven years ago.
While Nordgren has been linked to former The Bachelorette star Vienna Giardi and former The Hills star Audrina Patridge, he's has been with Lohan of late.

It never seems to end with the Lohans.
No sooner than daughter Lindsay Lohan ended her sixth stint in rehab, mom Dina Lohan was arrested for investigation of drunken driving.
Dina, 50, was pulled over by state Troopers in Long Island, N.Y., for allegedly going 77 mph in a 55 mph zone at 11 p.m. on Thursday, then was found to have a blood-alcohol level of 0.2 percent, more than double the legal limit of 0.08 percent,
Lohan's lawyer later released a statement to Entertainment Tonight that includes a pun on one of her daughter's biggest movies:

Is she finally serious about sobriety?
A source close to Lindsay Lohan's says yes, that the actress, who has relapsed many times before, is getting a framework in place to keep her from falling into substance abuse again upon her latest release from rehab.
That means truly committing to therapy and AA, cutting enablers out of her life and leaning on good influences, including Oprah Winfrey, for support.
"She's the best I've ever seen her, honestly," the source tells PEOPLE. "All she wants to do is work."

If there's one person who understands Lindsay Lohan's plight, it's her father, Michael.
"I know that jail didn't do anything for me with my addictions," Michael, 50, said Tuesday on Larry King Live. "[Lindsay] needs help. … The last thing I wanted in the world was for my daughter to go to jail."
Calling jail too "harsh" for a "young lady like Lindsay," Michael expressed his faith that his daughter will get her act together. "When she puts her mind to something, she can do anything in the world," he said.
