It's over for Djimon Hounsou and Kimora Lee Simmons.
"Djimon Hounsou and Kimora Lee Simmons have officially separated after 5½ years," the actor's rep tells PEOPLE exclusively. "Though never married, they have one child together, Kenzo Lee Hounsou, who is 3½ years old."
"There have been quite a few hurtful rumors circulating. The truth is Djimon + I have been separated for some time," Simmons Tweeted Wednesday. "We have remained happy, loving, co-parenting friends + family. We all have much to be thankful for."

Kimora Lee Simmons has not disappointed her followers on Twitter.
After announcing the arrival of a son with longtime boyfriend Djimon Hounsou, the Baby Phat CEO on Wednesday followed up with the name of the infant: Kenzo Lee Hounsou.
Filling her 18,000 Twitter mates in on the details, Simmons revealed that baby boy weighed in at 8 lbs. and 20 inches long.

Kimora Lee Simmons and Djimon Hounsou are the proud parents of a brand new baby boy!
The Baby Phat CEO, 34, announced the big news on Twitter in a post on Saturday that says, "It's a boy! Thanks to everyone out there for all your well wishes!"
"Both mother and child are doing great," a rep for Kimora Lee Simmons tells PEOPLE.
Although a name and details of the birth have yet to be released, Simmons promised there will be "more to come" in her Twitter update – and there's reason to believe she'll keep her word.
Simmons took to Twitter to tell her followers, "It's time !! No turning back! At hospital in labor right now!!"

Djimon Hounsou may now be enjoying Life in the Fab Lane with girlfriend and reality TV star Kimora Lee Simmons – but life wasn't always so glam for the In America and Blood Diamond Oscar nominee.
In the early 1980s, when he was in his teens, the African-born future model and actor was a homeless youth in Paris.
"I lived on the streets for some time – fighting for survival, searching out nothing more than my daily necessities for a meager existence," Hounsou, 44, told a U.S. Senate panel on Tuesday.

Kimora Lee Simmons is living large – and so is her boyfriend, Djimon Hounsou.
The fashion-designer-turned-reality-star spoke with PEOPLE at Wednesday's launch of her new fragrance, Fabulosity, and she good-naturedly gushed about the man in her life – and his new Calvin Klein billboard in Hong Kong.
"He's really big," Simmons, 32, said of Hounsou's underwear ad, which Calvin Klein's reps claims is the largest in Asia. "We were just there when it went up. Isn't it a great billboard?"
The Life in the Fab Lane star – who split from mogul Russell Simmons in 2006 and recently denied reports she's expecting – couldn't help but admire her beau's sleek physique (Hounsou is seen only in a pair of tightie whities). She boasted, "He's the biggest one in the world, honey."

Kimora Lee Simmons, who split from husband Russell Simmons last year, wasn't looking for romance when she met actor Djimon Hounsou she last February, but she found it – and then some.
"I have a lot of hang-ups in life with men. I'm not very trusting," the model and fashion mogul says in an interview in the February issue of Harper's Bazaar. "After my breakup, I thought, I don't need anything. But now I have someone who has the heart, the soul, and the hotness."
