Emily Maynard Blogs: Meeting Dolly Parton and Confronting a Vampire Detector
Originally posted 05/29/2012 06:05AM
Hey, everyone! I can honestly say that this episode had some of my very favorite dates!
I've lived in Charlotte for a long time, but I never in a million years imagined I'd be climbing the wall of a museum that Ricki and I go to often. Judging by Chris's face when the ropes came down the side of the building, I think he would've rather been at my house carrying in all my groceries like Ryan did last week!
As scary as it was climbing up the side of the building, the fact that there was a huge storm heading our way made it that much worse. Not only was I scared of falling, but also of getting struck by lightening!

Following the sad news on Thursday that disco legend Donna Summer lost her battle with cancer, celebrity fans have expressed their appreciation for the singer.
"So shocking to hear about the passing of Donna Summer," Aretha Franklin said in a statement. "In the '70s, she reigned over the disco era and kept the disco jumping. Who will forget, 'Last Dance?' [She was] a fine performer and a very nice person."
Barbra Streisand said she was "shocked" to hear about the death of Summer, 63, who never let on to the public that she was so sick.
Dolly Parton: I Don't Have a Cleavage Tattoo – Yet

She may have starred in Steel Magnolias, but it was a different type of flower that had everyone talking about Dolly Parton recently.
A photo of Parton, 65, at the premiere of her new film, Joyful Noise, appears to show a rose tattoo in her cleavage – but the country superstar insists it was fake.
"Was that not the ugliest picture you've ever seen?" Parton scoffed, when Anderson Cooper asked her about the tattoo on his talk show. "That looks like something obscene."

Dolly Parton sure can be handful – just ask Ryan Seacrest.
When the country legend visited Seacrest's radio show to talk about her new film, Joyful Noise, she pulled the host in for a hug – a very close hug, according to Seacrest.
"I was just saying bye to @Dolly_Parton when SHE grabbed my hands – look where they ended up!" Tweeted Seacrest, posting this huggy shot with Parton.

Forget Katy Perry! See Who Else Busted Out on Sesame Street

Katy, meet Polly.
Long before a cleavage-baring Katy Perry, 25, sent parents into a tizzy for her recent rendition of her hit "Hot N Cold" alongside Elmo, Sesame Street featured a busty guest of its own creation: Polly Darton.
Modeled after Dolly Parton, the country singer known for her own ample assets, Polly Darton cropped up on the children's program from 1981 to 1993.
Billed as "the sweetest little package in down-home country goodness," Polly Darton parodied some of Parton's greatest hits, including "9 to 5," whose lyrics had been tweaked for the show's preschool audience to "counting [from] 1 to 5."

Tim McGraw & Jewel Reveal Their Favorite BBQ Spots

How does country star Jewel keep her figure in tune? Mesquite-smoked Texas-style barbecue.
Okay, maybe that's not her most tried-and-true diet tip, but the country singer certainly has a go-to barbecue joint: Hard 8 BBQ in Stephenville, Texas.
"I take all my out-of-town guests here, and they rave about it," she tells PEOPLE Country in its September issue. "In fact, I think they visit me just for the barbecue."

Which 'Golden Gal' Should Host SNL?
Originally posted 05/12/2010 09:45AM
Following the success of Betty White's SNL hosting gig, bookers at NBC might be hoping to have another senior moment.
And while it would be tough to top White's digs at Facebook, double entendres about her muffin and her racy kiss with MacGruber, Hollywood has more than its fair share of women who are over 60 and up for the job.
In fact, a Carol Burnett Facebook campaign has sprung up – it worked for Betty, after all. But as The New York Times points out, Burnett should be in no rush. This coming weekend will bring the SNL season finale, to be hosted by Alec Baldwin.

Dolly Parton Recalls Being Propositioned in New York
Originally posted 04/30/2009 12:45PM
Dolly Parton is in New York City for Thursday's opening of her Broadway musical 9 to 5, but she didn't always love the Big Apple.
In 1968, Parton and a friend arrived in the city and got a room at the cheapest hotel they could find – right in the middle of the city near 42nd Street. "That's where all the prostitutes run and they ran in pairs for safety," Parton told David Letterman on The Late Show With David Letterman on Wednesday night, "and we looked like we might be them. I still had the big hair, looking trashy like I do."
While walking near Times Square, Parton was propositioned by a man who wouldn't take no for an answer. As the confrontation grew more aggressive, Parton defended herself the Tennessee way. "We were just country girls," she says, "and our daddies had given us both a gun when we left home ... I said, 'Look, if you touch me one more time, I'm gonna shoot you.' "

Dolly Parton Will Never Shake Her Country Roots
Originally posted 03/24/2009 08:55AM
At 63, country legend Dolly Parton has 80 albums, 25 No. 1 singles, 3,000 songs and even a theme park to her name. But the woman behind the quarter-billion-dollar empire says she's still just a little ol' country gal.
"Daddy would get up in the morning and work till he had to go to his job doing construction," Parton says in the May/June issue of AARP. "Then he’d come home and still be workin' on the farm till way after dark. We used to soak Daddy's old feet. Mama had some kind of salve she'd made up for Daddy's hands because they'd crack and bleed, and I remember rubbing Daddy's hands with it."
And those closest to her remember her at that same simple girl, she says, including husband Carl Dean and best friend Judy Ogle.

Dolly Parton on Britney & Lindsay: Give 'Em a Break
Originally posted 08/05/2008 11:00AM
Dolly Parton offered a double dose of comedy and compassion when she hit the concert stage in Los Angeles Sunday night.
"Poor little Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan," Parton told the crowd at the Greek Theatre, reports E! Online. "Ain't it awful? If those little girls slept with as many men as they say in the tabloids, why their little butts would have more fingerprints than the FBI!"
Parton, who belted out most of her hits during the two-hour show, further acknowledged, "I kinda feel sorry for them. We should give those two a break."
