Dolly Parton Recalls Being Propositioned in New York
Originally posted 04/30/2009 12:45PM
Dolly Parton is in New York City for Thursday's opening of her Broadway musical 9 to 5, but she didn't always love the Big Apple.
In 1968, Parton and a friend arrived in the city and got a room at the cheapest hotel they could find – right in the middle of the city near 42nd Street. "That's where all the prostitutes run and they ran in pairs for safety," Parton told David Letterman on The Late Show With David Letterman on Wednesday night, "and we looked like we might be them. I still had the big hair, looking trashy like I do."
While walking near Times Square, Parton was propositioned by a man who wouldn't take no for an answer. As the confrontation grew more aggressive, Parton defended herself the Tennessee way. "We were just country girls," she says, "and our daddies had given us both a gun when we left home ... I said, 'Look, if you touch me one more time, I'm gonna shoot you.' "

Dolly Parton Will Never Shake Her Country Roots
Originally posted 03/24/2009 08:55AM
At 63, country legend Dolly Parton has 80 albums, 25 No. 1 singles, 3,000 songs and even a theme park to her name. But the woman behind the quarter-billion-dollar empire says she's still just a little ol' country gal.
"Daddy would get up in the morning and work till he had to go to his job doing construction," Parton says in the May/June issue of AARP. "Then he’d come home and still be workin' on the farm till way after dark. We used to soak Daddy's old feet. Mama had some kind of salve she'd made up for Daddy's hands because they'd crack and bleed, and I remember rubbing Daddy's hands with it."
And those closest to her remember her at that same simple girl, she says, including husband Carl Dean and best friend Judy Ogle.

Dolly Parton on Britney & Lindsay: Give 'Em a Break
Originally posted 08/05/2008 11:00AM
Dolly Parton offered a double dose of comedy and compassion when she hit the concert stage in Los Angeles Sunday night.
"Poor little Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan," Parton told the crowd at the Greek Theatre, reports E! Online. "Ain't it awful? If those little girls slept with as many men as they say in the tabloids, why their little butts would have more fingerprints than the FBI!"
Parton, who belted out most of her hits during the two-hour show, further acknowledged, "I kinda feel sorry for them. We should give those two a break."

Dolly Parton Calls Miley Cyrus a 'Little Elvis'
Originally posted 03/17/2008 01:00PM
It's not just the tweens who love Miley Cyrus: The Disney channel star has a fan in Dolly Parton. "That little Miley Cyrus ... she's like a little Elvis," the country luminary says in a new interview with AOL Music. "The kids love her because she's Hannah Montana, but what people don't realize about her is she is such a fantastic singer and songwriter. She writes songs like she's 40 years old! She's really deep.
"And I think that she's gonna have a big career after that show is off the air," Parton continues. "I know I'm partial, because she's my goddaughter. But I'm amazed at the talent that child has and the effect she has on people."
